I have seen a lot of realism issues for this game, and some of the players are upset. What people don't realize is being realistic does not always bring more fun or playability. So how would you guys mix between realism and gameplay, whats the perfect balance to satisfy both sides and still keep the game fun?

Those who want realism, how would you incorporate it into the game in relation to the ships characteristics, in-game concept, map size and layout?

Have your say ;) Discuss while we wait for the PC DLC and the less fortunate, D2D patch >.<

some people take the isue of realism too far, me I dont mind a game that isnt uber un realistic like games with execive Nazi jets etc. but there is a certain thread that made me think wh'd you buy the game in the first place, they are coming up with coments like 'the renown class BB did 30knots not 25' and 'the kongo class had 3 guns on the front turret not 2' dont take this literaly this is just the jist of what they are like but its easy to get my point :)

well maybe it's better to choose (for SP) how much realism you want in the game

then when you start up the game , you have to select options so you can choose yourself how much realism you want in the game

that's my conclusion :)

Don't get me wrong, my friend ;) . Im not complaining anything about realism in this game, just heard a lot of people out there venting frustration about how the game is not "historically accurate". I've been playing this game quite awhile now and still playing. IMHO I conclude that realism will be hard to incorporate into the current engine and would need a lot of redesign and balancing. Some people may not realize that yet and still demand some realism forgetting the fact that its difficult to "translate" it into gameplay wise (i.e. still fun to play). So if YOU(the reader) or someone would like more realism, how would you do it if you were a dev team?

The thing that i see possible is more "realistic" sound effects (planes, bombs, torp hits etc.) and possibly slightly bigger maps to magnify the importance of "scouting" in naval warfare. Ships models and painting schemes more accurate. These are all feasible and relatively more easy to implement.

Well it wouldn't be fun it everything was realistic. i don't think that you'd even be able to see your targets if it was the real range of the BB's. And torpedoes were often fired 20 miles away. but yea i know you don't hate the game otherwise you wouldn't be on here haha.

total misundersanding.

When I mentioned about lack of realism I didn't think about battle range or turret's time moving etc.

Tell me: this is an engine of the game problem or playability problem to use the Nachi cruiser model in Battle of Java Sea ???
Why Perth cruiser looks like Atlanta ????
Why Java cruiser looks like Atlanta ????

this is additionaly strange, because Haguro cruiser (twin of Nachi) approaches in one of the scenario (is made by programers) ?

Why info about weapons of Yamato or Yorktown is bad (this info is ine every book about WWII) ???? still problem with playability ??
No, it is not. It is careless.

For many people it does not matter how ships (which we are fighting with) looks like, they probably know nothing or very little about history.
For me this is very important and this is why I always say that this game is very weak as far as reality is considered.

sorry for my English

Would be better if you went to the history channel.
I can bet, that after this, you will change your mind about this game.

I belive that when you choose Aston Martin in NFS underground game you wouldn,t like to see Citroen saxo car, would you ????

do you think, there is any option in this game, when Nachi will have 10 guns in 5 turrets (only one example) ????

Good point :) The ship models I also mentioned in my latter post that its something that could be fixed with minimal effort. All they need is make a new model or use the existing ones to make it correct. The Nachi is actually a Myoko class cruiser and does not have all 4 turrets up front. At least they could've use the Mogami class model which is more similar. And the website info on Yamato, well thats just ridiculous to say the least. Hope they do fix it.

One final point is that while it doesn't effect gameplay, all these contribute to the polish/aesthetic completion of the game and shows how much research and/or care has been done (i.e professionalism). I too would like to see more realism in this regard.

Oh btw, this thread is not a particular bash at anyone. Just raising the point for discussion ;) So plz don't take it personally aimed at anyone. :D

Takao class is closer than Mogami (Mogami had one chimney and third front turret was highest mounted - different like in Myoko or Takao class)

I would agree that the appearance and names of the ships could be done much more accurately without impacting game play. But if they were to ever start messing with the various ship speeds, accurate and effective gun ranges, etc... then that would mess up the balance of the game.

I would say fix the aesthetics to be more accurate, but keep the tactical inaccuracies as they are, as long as the goal there is to keep the scenarios interesting.

Well, it would appear we understand each other now, but remember Bank, there are those who complain about the playability Hist. inac. as well.

OK, I will remember.
Unfortunately I am not an expert in "playability" of the games
Is it possible to measure it ? :D
