View Full Version : GOTY will not install

I've tried the whole Installshield update proccess, and disabled Windowsblinds, but all the links to tech support on this forum are links.

It has a "compatible with windows xp" logo on it, I have, however, found little evidence of this. Any other tips to help finagle this game into working?

Oh and its the install problem where it gets 99% done and freezes at "extracting system files"

The standard fix to this: Copy the entire CD to a directory on your hard drive, and run setup.exe from that directory.

I have tried this many times. It still freezes at "uncompressing system data files." And if I close and launch the .exe, it says "please insert cd," which is in. And CPU usage during the install never gets above 2%. Any other suggestions?

Another possible fix: Check with the manufacturers of your various drives and see if there are any driver updates available.

You may also want to see if the game will install on some other system, just to make sure it's not the disk.

BTW, no version of Deus Ex GOTY should have a compatible with Windows XP on the box. Perhaps it's a Windows 98 logo?

The same thing EXACTLY is happening to me. I joined this message board hoping someone would know what to do.

I have Deus Ex GOTY copy that says it's Windows XP Compatible. I just bought this off Ebay, completely new still in the wrapping so I know there is nothing wrong with the disc. I have XP Professional. All my drivers are up to date. Even though the install process freezes at the end, it is installed on my computer. I proceed to open the game, and it says to insert disc, even though disc is already inserted. I downloaded a No-CD key for it, which fixed that, and now I am getting the error:

"Can't Find File for Package 'Effects'

History : UObject::Selfloader <- UObject::StaticLogClass <- InitEngine"

It is obviously a incomplete install issue. How do you properly install this game!?!?!?!?

I looked through these forums and found and answer!!!

I got the same problem and happened upon this thread trying to solve it. I figured out that there are 3 programs it runs that all lock up at the end of installation (I'm in WinXP with no super weird settings, not sure why it does this to only us). To get installation to finish, you have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the task manager and end the programs as they come up. The first is "SystemFiles.exe", followed by "TextureFiles.exe", and finally "MDMaps.exe" (I'm pretty sure that's the order). If you simply end these programs from the process manager, it should install fine and let you play the game.

Hope this helps!

THIS WORKS. TRIED IT AND DEUS EX RUNS PROPERLY

OK. so the game opens now, but there is another problem. When trying to start a new game from the main menu it says:

"Failed Launching URL

Can't Find File For Package 'UNACTO'"

Then it goes back to the main menu again. Same thing happens when you click "Training" and "Play Intro".

Anyone ever experience this problem? Is there a patch for this?

I tried it again this morning. Now it is saying:

""Failed Launching URL

Can't Find File For Package 'Paris'"

EDIT: Actually, it gives me that error when I try to start "New Game". The "Play Intro" and "Training" give me the UNACTO error

reinstalling doesn't help.

Is it possible or someone to send me these packages?

Better yet, is it possible for someone to send me their complete Deus Ex folder in the C drive?

What can I say? I am desperate! I really want to play this game again!!
