Sound problem causes crash in TR4

I had this problem that TR4 wouldn't start and would simply crash after the eidos movie. I found out that the only way to fix this was to completely disable sound in the game. So the obvious question is why does it have problems with the sound? Does anybody else have this problem? I would really appreciate the help.

What operating system are you using? If you're using XP or Vista, you can try using this XP/Vista multipatch (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/vista/patch.html). Make sure that compatibility mode is not enabled if you use the patch though.
