...I would like to say I have the 'silver bullet' solution, unfortunately not many people will try this option. I have not been able to run this game since buying it the day it came out in the UK. On monday I finally got it to work after, many emails to Eidos and lots of rebooting reinstalling etc etc. My solution...I spent some money (quite a bit) and bought a mobo combo. See my old specs of :

AMD Athlon 2.4 XP
XP Pro
1 Gig RAM DDR
extreme gamer XFi
7600GT

didnt seem to cut it despite meeting the requirements and the guys at Eidos wondering what the hell was going on. My new combo of:

AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual 4.2Gig
ASUS mobo
7600GT
2 Gigs DDR2
extreme gamer XFi

runs Midway well, see not the quick fix you may have thought of (hoped). But it shows if all else fails it may just be your system that needs changing. I decided to change mine because it was a few years old anyway and not because of this game...but it certainly made the difference!

Oh and if you play Arma you may see a simular post as i had the same problem with that game too

Chris,

Your old rig must have been fried. It was probably reinstalling the OS that fixed it.

I'm running:
AMD Sempron 3200+
XP Home
1Gb Dual Channel DDR
Geforce 6200 AGP
on an NForce 2 mobo
I've had almost no problems with the game. I run at 1024x768 with moderate settings and it plays like a dream. I occasionally CTD, but that always seems to be when I try to MP with a ping over 120.

Glad your new rig is working out though (and wish I had the cash for that kind of upgrade).
