Food and drink bug in Deus Ex 1

For a long time there has been a somewhat minor bug concerning food and drink in Deus Ex. Has anybody else noticed it?

If I eat and drink a lot of items over the course of a game I noticed that they have stop restoring hitpoints like they are supposed to usually sometime after the first Hells Kitchen levels. You will get a message telling you that 2 or 5 hitpoints have been cured but in fact no hitpoints are recovered.

After food stops working for most of the game it eventually starts working again, usually around the Area 51 levels. It will once again restore the amount of hitpoints which it is supposed to.

I once asked some modders about this on a IRC channel but they claim that they didn't notice because they didn't usually use food and drink that much. I, however, have noticed this happen consistiently because of my obessive compulsive style of gaming where I try to keep my hitpoints topped off and maximized at all times.

Has anyone else noticed this bug?

Hmmm. I don't think that bug exists. But I am currently playing Deus Ex through again under the Shifter mod for the first time, with the challenge of smoking the maximum number of cigarettes, ASAP after finding them, including emptying all cigarette machines. So I never max out on medkits and am constantly eating and drinking.

I'll let you know if I notice anything like what you're describing.

That's a curious OCD, getting so fixated on food and drink, when there are plenty of good medbots around. :nut:

Wouldn't be surprised if the bug exists, though, there are some well-known inventory oddities.

I've never encountered this problem, and I always choose food first whenever I need to restore a few hit points.

Cradle: The first several times I played through Deus Ex I really went nuts with the food and drink thing. I remember that in my inventory I'd waste 3 squares on 10 forties, 10 soy foods, and 10 candy bars. I don't do that anymore but at the time I guess I didn't want to be caught unprepared.

You really save on medkits if you make the most out of food, drinks and watercoolers. You don't even have to dump any money into vending machines.

It's also kind of funny to have your action hero constantly picking up other people's sodas, or open beer cans that he finds just laying around on the floor of the subway station
