Hi there,

On this demo map I see a lot of people pulling the carriers behind the islands in order to keep them safe from Jap assaults… which works great, I do it myself  but how do you counter that?

It’s practically impossible to beat the allies once positioned behind the island and having all of the plains hovering over or in front of the island taking out all of what’s thrown at them and damaging your vessels in the process, which will result in pushing you back bit by bit.

I feel sorry for the chap’s that have to cope with this tactic so I started thinking :mad2: and came up with this.

In my opinion when you see the carriers flee the seen so to speak:p , the Japanese air force needs to turn their attention to: Covering the fleet that alone will never be able to cope with air assaults and enemy vessels attacking them.

The air forces will need to split their air power in to two parts, being: Covering the air bases and defend the fleet from any enemy attack.

I’m not going to tell you all the ideas I have but this (when played right) might just tilt the outcome of the battle in favor of the Jap’s.

I have to say I haven’t gotten the chance to tryout these tactic’s yet but hope to be able to with someone who understands the game and knows what to do instead of running around like a headless chicken.

That’s about it for me.

PS:
I also want to say that I’m still only playing the demo… after long consideration  I’ve decided to wait and see what the patch / update is going to bring to the game because of what I’ve read so far in most of the posts and seen myself, the game still needs a lot of tuning game play wise.
(slightly lager maps, not being able to see the whole map once in the air, more maps, being able to make your own maps, better server browsers, and so on... Look at relaed topic).

Graphics and playability are fine, you don’t have to go all realistic with it.
It just needs that little bit more to give to the public. And I sure hope they do!

Have fun and good hunting.

It is actually quite easy. It is not helped be the fact that on the demo map many people are playing the game for the first time and don't always know the best way to beat the game.
You must use the jap airpower against the allied shipyards an all out effort to take out the left shipyard (left when looking at the map) for BB's Then you try and give fighter cover to you BB's as they take on the carriers.
It can get complicated if the allies employ the same strategy but on this map genraly the BB's are king. And who has them longest will normally win.

Humpty Dumpty...

I regulary sneak around the island with my CA/DD crossing the route between the Island and the carriers and in that way, sneaking on to the Airbase. Always a succes in kills and hits. Whilst all IJN airpower is aimed to me, the US carriers can float away and take the shipyards down. IF the US carriers sees my intention to cover their asses with my AA!

+ When I sneaked around the IJN island and finished the Airports, I'm sneaking onto the shipyards whilst the IJN fleet is hunting down the carriers.

Else, when IJN, get a sub and dive to the carriers. Even if there are planes in the air with DC's. The sub launches and direct dive to deepest level.
Another one for IJN, launch DD's and sneak upon the carriers (when approaching, manually hand the AA), you're providing fire and water damage and in the meanwhile, if you're good at artillery, you can deplete the carrier from planes by shooting these down on the deck!

BB's and CA's are slow vs DD's as also, the SS can go stealth (max depth dive, point the way so the AI can go to the given spot on this depth = Launch SS, dive, point and forget!) till near the island with 75% left of his hull before comming on radar again, the moment they're about to fire the torps it's to late to launch DD's towards those subs as included launching planes with DC's.

I won plenty of games when beeing IJN as also when beeing US on the Solomon islands (the demo map)

I assault the shipyards at first and stop them from spawning surface ships so that the Japanese vessels would be free to engage the carriers...if they are hanging around the island, it is only a matter of time before the BBs or CAs get around and sink them.

Also after the destruction of the shipyards, just put a CAP up over your airfield and CAPs over the surface fleet as they move in for the kill against the carrier.

I send 4 squads of torp bombers, and 2 squads of fighters straight at the carriers in the begginning. This usually takes it out. While my torp bombers head home to reloads,I get my fighters and strafe the carriers to take out AA guns. I repeat the torpedo run and take out last carrier...now time to deal with the ships. Usually I'm playing 1vs1. I already have 2 kongos,a sub,and a destroyer out. My sub is off on the east flank, getting ready to come in on any battleship getting to close to my shipyards. My kongos stay together for max firepower...headed straight for the shipyards. My destroyer heads off to the east flank to slow down any surface attack on my airbases. With 4 torp bombers, and now 2 dive bomber squadrons in the air...I can easily take down their surface vessals with my combined firepower of 2 battleships and 12 torpedos. All the while my 6 planes with bombs are taking down the shipyards health while my battleships are getting in range.

Game would be over pretty quick after that.
