When you are playing on the Japanese side, you get vocal responses to things going on in the game. On the American side, these are in English and are rather helpful. Japan's are appropriately in Japanese. However will there be an option in the full game to change the Japanese voices to English? Battlefield 2 allowed you to do this. When the switch was made, the voices became English with an accent.

Nah I think it's about time we study japanese for a change. J/k, I see your point. If some people listen to these reports and "can't be arsed to" memorize the situation they were used in, they should be able to get it in english with a funny accent. :)
Not sure if this is a good example because I have not really listened to the reports given by the AI, but I have played Battlefield: Desert Combat where you have Americans against these Arabs, and I had no trouble learning what the Arabs were saying.

I agree, I checked the map once to see that a ship was sinking, I was unsure if it was a friendly or an enemy ship and the japanese voice didn't really help much.

Blue = Americans
Orange/Yellow = Japanese

But when sinking they are grey, regardless of origin. Right?

At the demo title screen, choose "Settings" and then "Game". There is an option to turn Subtitles "ON". You will now be able to read what the Japanese units are yelling, and you may actually learn a little Nihon-go in the process. I'm continually amazed at how little people actually explore the menus of a game. Inverted flight controls have always been available in the demo, it's just that so few people actually bother to check options/settings in the main menu. I guess all those years of searching for easter eggs in menus during the 8-bit and 16-bit generation gives me a slight advantage.

PC Demo has option to turn subtitles ON, so you understand what Japanese are saying. Look under Game options.

I was in-game looking for this option, but for some reason the dev didn't think to put that menu in the pause menu when you are playing.

I hope not... I find 'funny' accents in games offensive which is why I didn't enjoy playing Blazing Angels. ****
I think it's much more appropriate and realistic to leave the Japanese language in the game and simply have subtitles.

I'd prefer the option to be there as well.
It has nothing to do with offensiveness, or lack of desire to learn the sayings.... but I'm not going to stop playing, find a Japanese dictionary and look up the words, then start playing again. I play to have fun, not to learn. If I happen to learn something while playing, GREAT! But it's not my goal.
I took 3 semesters of Japanese, and we didn't learn naval combat terms once during that time. :scratch:

i don't want to have to stop while i am fighting just to look at my map to see if they are saying that i am under attack, my ship is sinking etc. just so that i can try to memorize what they say so that the next time i am playing i can hope to remember (which i probably won't, so i would need to do it again)
subtitles would be good, but i would like it if they had an option to put it in english, don't need accent that are over the top and offensive, i don't care if they have an accent at all, but i want to understand what they are saying
