View Full Version : Naval Arc's of Fire and Torpedo Question for Community

I'm searching for a source that will show the arcs of fire for all of the naval vessels. Ex, how many arcs on the artillery when the ship faces this way, that way, forward, etc.

As of late, my angle of approach to ship engagement has cost me a bit, so I'm looking to improve that aspect of my game.

Next question, what are the different tactics you use to line up your torpedo shots with either a destroyer or sub? How do you determine speed using the binocs/periscope?

Thanks!

the sub takes a bit of practice, (all torps)
remember they do have gyros (or RF for us) that turns the torp to the degree of attack you tell them to, you also have to adjust for the (distance wise) way the torp moves up to the surface. normally give 1 to 1 1/2 ships length.

Look for the little water splash on the front of the ship. That way, you know it's moving. 99% of the time, they are moving at full speed, so that should give you a clue based on what type of ship they are.

as a general note
center line guns generally have a 270 degree arc of fire
this only holds for the forward and aft guns
if the centerline gun is behind AND below the gun forward then treat it as a broadside bearing gun that can fire to either broadside
examples

Yamato has 3 turrets forward(2x18" and 1x 6")and 2 turrets aft(1x18" and 1x6")
each turret is higher that the turret behind it so all these guns have a clear shot and have the large arc of fire

the Takao class have 3 turrets forward and 2 aft however the rear most turret of the forward group is lower than the turret(B turret blocks it from firing about the 45 degrees fwd

Broadside guns generally have about 120 to 150 degree arc(depends on ship design) of fire to the side that they are on
if mounted centerline they will bear to both sides
