like you can with planes. Can you make or attach ships to another ship so they stay in formation some how?

Once you have two ships (assuming one of them isn't a submarine), all you do is take control of one of the ships, move your cursor over the other ship, and press the "A" button. The ship you had previously selected will now be following the other ship. Now all you have to do is hold the "X" button and press DOWN on the D-Pad. This will bring you to a diagram thinggy of your ships. You then move the cursor around until you have created your ideal ship formation. After that, press "A" again and your ships will slowly move into position. This also works with multiple ships for the single player campaign or if one of your teammates leaves and you get all the ships or something.

Have a another question. I have gotten my 2 ships to use formation. Is there a way to attach to another players ships? For instance if i have 2 ships and my team mate has two is there any way to attach to his formation? or just my own?
Also i found once i did get formation to work it only would let me select the one ship i formationed to. In other words after i did formation from my battleship to my Destroyer i could not toggle to my battleship any more unless i disbanded the formation again. So does all orders from the destroyer also affect the Battleship since you now lose your abilty to use the Battleship ?

I'm pretty sure that in order to put a ship in the formation you have to control it, so your teammate would have to give the ship to you first.
To select the different ships in the group, select the lead ship on the map screen, and then you should see icons in the lower left indicating which ships are in the group. You can then press up or down on the DPad to scroll through selecting the ships in the group. By selecting the following ship this way you can give it other orders to break it out of the group.

Are you sure it works in the demo? I have done this with planes, but when I tried with ships it didn't work for me. When I move the cursor over another ship and press a nothing happens.

It works in the demo. It just has to be with two ships YOU control. You can't do it with someone else's ship.
Also note that you won't see a blue arrow pointing to the lead ship. You'll just see 'Follow' over the unit name in the lower left corner, and you won't be able to directly select it anymore.
