Okay, look.

I'm a main-storyline kinda guy, so I kept away from any of the liberation or drug cartel missions. I mean, why bother to free a handful of settlements when all you get is a handgun and a beat up sedan for a reward? I sprinted all the way through the game and got to the President's Island only having liberated two settlements.

HOWEVER. Now that I'm attempting to assault the President's Island, I'm finding the difficulty level went from a simple run and gun to an impossible slog.

I'm on 18 (I think), and I destroy the Black Hand helicopter. The only way I've done it so far is by (spoiler) jumping out of the deployment helicopter, grabbing the boat, going to the closest mainland area, and desperately attempting to hijack an attack helicopter to destroy the tank. If that doesn't work, I go to Agency safehouse #4 and get my own attack helicopter. I'm sure that's not exactly what they wanted players to do, but landing on the beach, making the 2000 yard run to the palace is nearly impossible.

So after the President's helicopter takes off, comes the decision. Do I attempt the next 2000 yard run on foot, where I run 1500 yards of it to eventually run out of health (ten minutes later), or do I attempt to grab a vehicle, where the second I look at it, 3-5 rockets are sent into it before my camera changes perspectives.

Now my question is this. If I took over Army bases from government rule (a la Liberation side mission) would any of this ridiculously withering gunfire lighten up a bit? If I took over all of the airports, would this impenetrable layer of helicopters and jets soften? With this game, I seriously doubt it, but I'm hoping so. I hate to waste hours upon hours freeiing the island only to find out that it makes no difference in the end missions.

If this is not a legitimate way to get past this ridiculously difficult part, then how did everyone else do it?

I've read your spoiler which I didn't care because I had already beaten the
game. One thing that does not make sense is, if you are under attack then there is no way you can ask for a extraction because getting to safe house #4 is like
miles away, isn't it?

Who said anything about an extraction? I take the boat you land on after falling out of the helicopter, turn it north, and head towards #4. Yes, it takes forever, but it's the only way I can seem to get to the palace without breaking my keyboard/throwing my mouse across the room.

i just grapplehook a helicopter and hover above the palace and do the mission from there:cool:
