What did you think of the single player mission trailer?
After watching the trailer I didn't feel like I was part of the combat, if it had been in black and white I would have thought I was watching a news reel about the war during that era. Its hard to judge a book from its cover and I can see some great on line game play possibilities. I will buy this when it comes out but I have some suggestions.
The dive and torpedo bombers shouldn't have a reticle in the 3 party view. This is ok for dogfights but in real life the dive/torpedo bombers delivered their play load without any sights. The dive bombers used a steep angle of attack, as the the trailer pointed out, so they could deliver the bomb accurately.
I don't like the third party view, it just doesn't get me into the game as an individual, I always feel like nd observer, even if I can maneuver and fire some ordnance. I realize the making of bridges for the ships and cockpits are time consuming but would it be possible to use a generic cockpit. It would have a reticle and some gauges across the bottom of the screen and none of your plane. The bridge could be done the same way without a reticle and the anti aircraft guns could have a modeled reticle with maybe the end of the gun barrel moving with it so you feel like you were in the game. I can post some pictures if anyone wants. Can you switch the game icons off and on so you get a pure combat scene.
The binocular view is good but being able to fire a 8" gun with them is bad**** . This could be used in the periscope scene for torpedoes and probably is.
The whole mission seemed too scripted and there was always a direct hit on all the targets. A big part of the major campaigns was not knowing where the enemy positions were or what munitions they had. In this mission you just looked at a map and it showed you their defenses. The dogfight looked way to easy, one scene 2 enemy planes were shot down at the same time and it didn't happen that way very often.
I really think the developers have done an outstanding job and I really enjoy their models and the graphics. My criticisms are directed at making it more realistic and maybe not so much as a shooter.
