Agreed, though I wouldn't want them to focus too much on releasing a demo, and more on perfecting the game. My only concern for this game is that it might be too arcade. And in clarifying that a demo would most cetainley help :lmao:

Looking at the way Company of Heroes was released I wouldn't recommend rushing the release either!

It had a great single player component, but the multiplayer instantly turned so many people off because it shipped in such a buggy state.

3 Patches later and it has some of the interface appeal that Rome Total war had TWO YEARS AGO!!!! Wow, we can see other players loading prior to battle, such innovation, Relic! :scratch:
And don't even get me started on the "dropping" (netcode) and stats issues.


I feel the multiplayer component of Battlestations is even more integral to the fun factor of this game, so to screw that up would be development suicide.

A demo would be fun and pretty much inform me as to whether I want to buy the game or not, but please, test the multiplayer as much as possible!

ya, they need to test the online, when battlefield 2 (for the 360) came out the voice chat didn't work and that killed the online play because no one knew what anyone else was doing

Frankly, the devs should take their time and let the Christmas market spam unfold by itself, then "quietly" released after the shopping spree malarchy (is a game ever released without a massive marketing asssualt when made by Eidos!?).

If the January 30th date is correct I would say prob not done with touch-ups. They could actually work on it till about the 15th of January and still get the game out by the 30th.

that is a good idea something along that line. Tulagi looked liked a sweet mission where one would be able to implament many tactics to get a taste for the game, plus it would stop me from druling over the vids and screenshots. :)

First of all sorry and here's why it is dutch I was born in denmark, baptised in holland, my mom is dutch and i choose my dutch side over my american side. But my mom thinks me learning how to spell dutch is pointless so I have to ask my mom or go to free translationsto learn how to spell it, she only thinks i should learn how to speak it.
And if i had a choice i would rather be Dutch than American

To be honest thats the one day i'm more than sure it won't. Why you may ask well becuase thats the day Crackdown demo comes out. They don't normaly release two demos on the same day. It can happen, but i highly doubt it!

Couldn't agree with you more...to us it is simply recreation and not work.

From a different perspective, its nice to see this type of gaming coming to a console. Most of the time, in the past, this type of strategy game does not get created on the consoles. Sure, there have been a few in the past, but mostly they are PC based. And for good reason...the games are usually huge in nature and scope, the game is slower paced than the twitchy shooter games, and the control schemes for controllers in the past has been limited or not condusive to this type of game.

Now for this game, from the demo, etc...it appears that the 360 handles the game very well with minimal or now slowdown...even with all the units on the screen (from what I could tell). The game is a strategy game, don't get me wrong...but I love the RTS part. This keeps the game moving and in some of those battles it appears that you'll be a madman trying to flip through your units to help them out or to keep them from getting killed so they can fight another day (or another bombing run). For this I am very grateful and I'm very glad to see the 360 getting its due! I'm sure if it does well the PS3 might get a port.

My hope is that this type of game gains speed, especially with the XBL component and gets a much needed "strategy" genre up and running. Any sequal would have to be pacific, it was the only conflict where both sides had carriers and that is a massive part of the game. the germans and italians had no aircraft carriers at all.

But What you are talking about is a real time statergy Where you can jump in tanks, it might be ok for a stand alone game or an updated version of the battlefield series but could not really be a sequal for a naval combat game.
A sequal would have to be a naval combat game with the use of carriers and the only place in the ww2 where both sides met with carriers was the pacific.

I think it would be. There are maps in BS:M with no air support. There are some people who wouldn't play the game if it didn't have carriers,just for the shear principle of it. It would be just fine for me.

One of the tough things about integrating land based units into the BS format, is pathfinding. Airplanes, Boats and Subs all share the rather nice (from a programming perspective) obstacle free plane of existence. It means that when you tell the AI to go someplace, a plane will just go there. Its not like theres a big hill thats gonna stop a plane, it'll just go over it. the only thin gthat could get in the way is another plane, but you've got 3 lovely dimensions and so can go around. Same with boats and subs

if you integrate tanks, etc. then you have to program in some hardcore pathfinding routines, lest you tell your tank squad to go from one side of the map to the other and they get stuck on the 1st set of tank traps they run into. Realistic? Yes. Fun? No.

The logical step for the game, and the market preference :p , is to expand upon the conflict in Guadacanal, and perhaps go as far as the last major battles in the Philliphines at the end of the war.

Guadacanal would mostly be a change of local as the conflict was fought mainly in 1942. Denser island chains that would perhaps call for greater emphasis on the land battles.

I myself have been trying to write a design document for this sort of scenario for quite some time.. I'm 100% sure this sort of mass naval conflict with the added theatre of minimalist land warfare is on the up, and the investors, Eidos, have chosen to invest wisely..
cue many copycats and annoyed people with a similar idea :o ;)

If an add-on or sequel is situated temporally towards the end of the war, the team could offer us later, more sophisticated weapons which developed as the war progressed. This has the added bonus of not constraining the game content within some arbitrary, but nonetheless valid "historical timeframe", which BS:M suffers from a little bit (does the Yamato seem a bit out of place, anyone?!).

I have not been following the weapons in great detail, I will wait for the game to analyse ;)
But I'd say it's already quite a kaleidoscope in terms of early and late weapons, this is the nature of the fun vs "historical authenticity" trade off.
