View Full Version : Should the internet take blame or praise? (RANT)

In my postings and from reading others in this Forum and others i have noticed a pattern that really needs to stop.

The internet is a vast and good thing to have but not for PC games. Before the internet when a game came out it was just about as free of bugs and prolbems as it could be. Yes there were prolbems but you called them and they took your prolbem and name and if there was a patch, they sent you a patch disk (i still have them, i am a pack-rat) and there you go.

I understand that games of the past where not as complex as they are today but now it seems that game companys are underpresser or don't care about a game date relase. It seems that it is send now and patch latter. And the internet is now a escape from the presser and a place where you just get the update.

If we did not have this internet for a place for a game patch what would happen to game companys that sent out the game's in the way they are now? I belive that game mag's would nail them to the wall and bury the wall. And gammers would be or not willing to buy a game from that company right off the bat again.

But for the internet this prolbem of bugs and flaw's are really not taken into account when a rewivew is done by game mag's, Yes they do say it has bug's, but they should really let them know this should stop. They should take them to task about this in there ranking of a game.

As for us gammers what do we do? Some do sit there and just eat the bugs and take the choice of stop playing the game or overlooking it totaly and waiting for a patch. That i wish would stop. We need to let them know. Make a good game, take your time then let it go.

I understand that you can't have a totaly bug free game on the frist let go with all the different kinds and make up's of computer's out there. But game companys should tell the ones that put up the money and gammers that we went to make sure it is as right and as best as possible before the release. Then listen to the bug postings and idea's for fixing it.

IF this is done i belive that vast posting on forums would be idea's for making it better next add-on or just a plane add more stuff to it(mods). The bug's would be a minor posting in the background to be fixed as fast a possible.

I do hope this does not start a flame post. I am just here to rant and i am in hopes that this company and gammers will think about this. I hope.

I take full praise or blame.

Poke.

Game companies have almost always been under pressure. Even going back to the Atari 2600 and the game ET. The developer was only given 6 weeks to make the game.
Is it the Internet's fault? No, I don't think so. it is just evolution of the gaming industry. If anything it has actaully helped the gaming public, publishers and developers by allowing the cosumers communicate with the pubs/devs.
I remember even before those days when games were on tape. (Vic-20 and C64). The thing you have to remember is that games back then did not anywhere near the amount of coding that goes on now days and that unlike the old days when games systems were pretty much universal; now days you have about as many different hardware and software combinations as you do computers. If there are bugs discovered that prevent a game from being played or working the way it should then of course the developers will try and fix it but sometimes things will take time. Not only do they have to track down the problem code but also make the correction and the make sure it hasnt broken something else. Heck, even the great Starcraft still comes out with patches.
The internet is a great way of communicating issues with the devs to help find a solution or assist them in creating a patch but things just take time.
