Hi All
Just thought I'd share this with you in case it helps. Bought my PC 2 months ago so it's a relatively up-to-date PC: AMD 64 X2 4600+ cpu, M2N32-sli 590 Deluxe M/B, 2Gb DDR2 RAM, 300Gb HD, Geforce nVidia 7600GT 256 Mb Graphics Card, Gamepad Pro (USB), Windows XP Media Center Edition (SP2 included), Kaspewrsky, ZoneAlarm, Spysweeper.

I did all the updates to windows and all security software. I then bought Tomb Raider: Legend and installed it without any problems, i didn't need to install any driver updtaes for sound or graphics as i had the latest ones anyway but i did install the two TR7 patches on the eidos website. the problems arose when i tried to start it up to play. I got the meesage that states TR7.exe has encountered problems and must close etc etc. I was well p*ssed off. I looked at my event viewer in admin tools and saw it had something to do with the kernal32.dll file but i don't have a clue about any of that sort of stuff and after surfing this and other forums and googling, was at a loss.

Anyway, my pc crashed big time (for a completely unrelated incident) and had to re-install windows, i did that and all the security software mentioned above and including TR7, but DID NOT do the windows updates. I thought i'd leave that till last. Well would you believe TR7 worked and i played it using the Next Gen (with a few stutters here and there but fully working and playable). Then i remembered i hadn'y done my windows updates and so proceeded with this. After installing ALL the windows and microsoft updates (i have office 2003 too) i tried to play TR7 again but got exactly the same errors as mentioned above, i.e. tr7.exe encountered probs and must close, so i realised that it must be something to do with the windows updates. I began by looking at what each update fixed and anything to do with Graphics Rendering and Kernal vulnerabilities (and others that i thought would have ANY kind of connection with graphics, gaming, applications access etc) I uninstalled beginning with the oldest patch, restarting the pc and trying tr7 until it worked again. well i can now play tr7 as before. Yeeeesssssssss!

Below are the updates i uninstalled. the first 7 updates didn't help any, tr7 still kept closing so they may or may not have an effect on TR7. Please note I DID NOT reinstall them afterwards. then i got to the 8th one, uninstalled, restarted and hey presto TR7 played just lovely. Here are the updates....

1) KB890859 (OLDEST)
2) KB896424
3) KB900485
4) KB901214
5) KB904706
6) KB908531
7) KB912919
8) KB917422 (THE LAST ONE I UNINSTALLED BEFORE TR7 WORKED)

I really hope this helps as i was well gutted when i couldn't even start the bleeding game.
Good luck

Hi there I present myself, until now I´m Sblade a long "fan in the shadows" of Lara since TR1 and I only have missed "chronicles".

I can tell you that KB917422 update is the one about giving more control on the computer to Securom so they can do more checking than the usual.

As you know Microsoft and Sony get along very well with Digital Rights Management so they worked together so their Securom is with this update even more invasive

Exactly how paranoid does one have to be to actually believe the bull*beep* you wrote above?
