Will there ever be another Legacy of Kain game ?? ...or has the series ended with Defiance:(

Sadly, the series has ended with Defiance.

There are talks with Eidos and Crystal Dynamics to merge it with the "Tomb Raider" series of games.

Due to the success of Tomb Raider: Legends, several CEO's of Eidos think that to boost the popularity of the Legacy of Kain games, it would be wise to leach off the success of the "Tomb Raider" games.

So look out for a Legacy of Kain: Lara's Gift in fall 2007.

Gah, I wasn't fond enough of Rose and Thorn to have it turned into an actual game. Other than that, I cannot think of how to manage it.

Better to have a completely fresh series leach off of LOK. Us and a completely new fanbase. I think they'd lose the TR fanbase with the strangness of it.

(I've yet to give Lara that one chance after AOD, besides my brief install of the new demo.)

I thought for a second you'd gotten wind of something and chose now to share it. I'd buy a game just to watch Lara impale some poor sod with the reaver and then consume their soul. :lmao:

That would be suicide for both franchises. What I would expect to see is that if there is another LOK game, it would say right on the box in big shiny letters, "From the makers of TR:Legend". However, I don't think that the actual game universes/stories would overlap.

Got any links to info on this?

HELL NO! That'd be even worse than "Raziel takes on New York"! (Made up name) Whoever came up with the idea of merging LOK with should be fired immediately.

Maybe I'm exaggerating with that, but it's still the worst idea they could possibly come up with. By all means use the two series to promote each other, but don't wreck the one thing that makes LOK unique by mixing it with a game whose story might as well have been scribbled on the writers hand on their way into work one day.

Sorry, I exaggerated again.
**Says that hoping I've not offended anyone too much to bother with a new Kain game**

Legend looks like a good attempt considering it's a Tomb Raider game, but it still doesn't come close to that of a Kain game.

End of rant.

I'm being truthful here, I would sooner accept no sequel to Legacy Of Kain rather than it be merged with Tomb Raider. By all means have cameos, such as Lara Croft in a place that is similar to the Tomb of the Sarafan, but merging them would possibly destroy two perfect licenses.

I never liked Tomb Raider myself, if those 2 series were to merge, I'd hate Tomb Raider even more and utterly despise LOK. But it cant be true anyway, most likely just Omega's way of a joke as these topics come up WAY too much, so good joke  .

No, I haven't found something - this is all one big massive joke.

... or is it? ;)

Kidding of course.

The actual answer is:

After the release of Defiance, there were un-official plans to make a sequal, but nothing actually announced.

Sadly, shortly after the release, several (perhaps key) people who helped make the series left Crystal Dynamics (the developers who make the games). This includes Amy Hennig, and three other folks who knew an awful lot about the story and plot lines/twists.

Since then, nothing has been announced by either Eidos (the publisher) or Crystal Dynamics.

Poor sales figures for Defiance mean that Eidos might never reconsider the series (this is of course, just my opinion), and unless anything isn't announced within three years of the PS3 release (I figure they might hold off designing a game for a system that is going out of date [i.e. Hex-Box1 and PS2]) then I doubt anything more will be released.

Poor sales figures mean little profit. Little profit means little reason to develop further titles.

Blame the folks who pirate copy the games.

Hence why, as I keep saying, (though I have little reason to stop unless someone baps me with a mailing tube, I think I'm only irritating myself here,) they need to get the LOK crowd hooked on a new series. Hell, they could even introduce the one best element of Tomb Raider into a new series, as long as it has enough of the LOK elements to grab this group. (Which probably means that even if TR's best element is Lara's body, they're better off going with the Tomb part.)

Edit: Okay, maybe they could have the shirtless cute guy angle, but STORY is the key.

I guess they could try the prequel thing again have it at the dawn of the empire when Kain raises his lieutenants. Then if new players want to know who Raziel is they have "Oh he's this guy Kain just raised" as a starting point and if Kain comes across the chronoplast and finds out that he's going to have to abyss Raziel someday, then if they wanted to know more they'd be like "Oh, there was another game with this?" I think that type of thing could be a good point to introduce new players even though the rest of us probably prefer a sequel. It'd still be able to hint at what's going to happen next and what's previously happened (same as how BO2 is a result of Defiance), but at that point in the story it can do so more subtly like SR1 did without having to know absolutely everything about the other games.

I like that idea. I don't know if it would be possible, but if they could include a few other answers in a logical manner, including Vorador's resurrection, that would be great. I have a few ideas how the resurrection could happen, but I'd still like to see it in a cutscene or FMV. If the game takes place around the dawn of the empire, it would need to explain either why Vorador is still alive or how he died, depending on what happens between Kain and Vorador after BO2, so it shouldn't be hard to have some sort of narrative scene which shows Vorador's resurrection, gives a brief summary of Kain's rise to power, and then explains Vorador's position in Kain's empire (or his death, if that's what happened after BO2). I'm envisioning something sort of like the BO2 introduction which carries significant meaning to someone who has played the earlier games (Kain walking by the Pillars as they crumble, for instance) but still works well for someone who has not played the previous games (if Vorador did die after BO2 and does not appear in the new game itself, it would still make a really powerful intro to show a battle between Kain and Vorador, perhaps just prior to the raising of Kain's own sons. I would not want this battle to be playable because I don't want to be the one to kill Vorador, and if I have to watch Vorador die, I want to see him in full FMV glory before he goes). I have a few ideas for some other loose threads, but I don't know if they would fit as well in a game centered on the dawn of the empire.

Shortly put: A Blood Omen 3, would be good to introduce new people, to the series.

Vampmaster

As long as they don't call in Blood Omen 3. That would sound too much like a sequel. Although it would be a sequel they need to discuise the fact a bit, so people can get into the game without feeling like it's a repeat of an older game/story. I didn't realise SR1 was a sequel until I heard about BO1 in the forums after I'd already gotten to the end of the game, but I wouldn't have guessed just from just playing it unlike SR2 and Defiance.

much as we love legacy of kain, i think the problem with the money making aspect of the games is the fact that sr1 sr2 and defiance are all to be continued into each other. i think most people may only pick up defiance since its the newest most user friendly, and not know whats going on.
i was trying to get my friend hooked on LOK, as its the best video game series ever, and i thought id never say that about ANYTHING but FF7. His problem was that he didnt really connect with it cuz he didnt know enough of what was going on, despite my 20 minute rant on the history of LOK.
Its probably possible to stick a short blurb about the history in defiance2/blood omen3, and make the game self sustaining, but it would still be tough.

i will say this tho, since the legacy of kain cast and crew has sort of fallen apart, i think the only way to make an LOK tomb raider cross over work well, would be get lara to find ye olde nosgoth, she finds out about all the **** that happened and we are basically told the ending of LOK. I hate this idea, but its better than being left in the dark.
now heres the kicker.
for the last boss, lara finds some old sarcophagus with the balance emblem enscribed on it, and its supposed to be the last remant of the lost Nosgoth civilization. She opens it, and the final boss appears.... AND BOOYA Kain jumps out and opens up a 5000 year old CAN OF WHOOPA$$!!

but then i guess lara would have to kill kain, LOL which just made me laugh out loud at the very thought, since hed grind her bones to make his bread.
it was a fun idea to write about tho.

when im older and richer i wanna just buy the rights to legacy of kain, and if im poor, write novels of it all and some new stuff, and if im rich, make a movie series/mini series/other game.

LOL could you imagine lara opening kains tomb and getting a gut full of soul reaver. a man can dream...
