Okay.. if Kain stayed "alive" [i know he's actually Undead, but we'll call it alive for easiness sake] when his heart got ripped out by Raziel in LoK : Defiance, then how come he died at the beginning of Blood Omen?

Did Kain only become the Scion of Balance when he got ressurected or what?

If he was ALWAYS the Scion of Balance, then why did he die?

[If this is a dumb question, tell me off and send me to bed with no supper =P I havent played the Blood Omen games.. It's just a question i thought up]

;) Actually Kain was sort of rescued from the abyss by Mortanius . Kain was still transfixed to the sword that was used to assasinate him . Mortanius gave Kain a choice of revenge and like a fool he took it . Motanius pulled the sword from Kain's back and handed it to him and in that moment he was transformed into a Vampire .

I think that Kain became the Scion of Balance when he was turned to a Vampire.

I think that there are two possibilities.
Either (a) he became the SoB when resurrected by Mortanius and furnished with the HoD - which sort of does not explain why he turned up in the demon dimension instead of Spectral upon his first death;
or
(b) Kain was SoB from start, but the whole deal with being the SoB already includes the thing that after you die, you don't go to Spectral, but to the demon dimension; and all Mortanius did was turn Kain into a vampire...
(remember that Mortanius was sort of wrong: he thought that the SoB=the Vampire Champion, while these are two different things)

Unlikely B. The SoB is the vampire savior. It stands to reason when he died and was transformed into a vampire he became it. Not before

He was always the Balance Guardian, as we all know. He even says that as he drew his first breath he was corrupted by the madness which is proof of this.

However, the Scion is the one who will restore balance. Seeing as the human guardians were part of the cause of the imbalance, it stands to reason that Kain had to become a Vampire to become the Scion.

Also, remember what Mortanius tells Raziel in Avernus.
"I created the champion foretold by my masters to be your destroyer."

This implies that Kain had to be a Vampire as he was created by Mortanius.

(this explanation was kind of buggy but its late in England an I need sleep!)

But Mortanius was a bit wrong, wasn't he?
We know that there are three personae: the Vampire Champion, the Hylden Champion and the Scion of Balance. Raziel is the first two, Kain is the third.

Mortanius, mostly, thought that the Scion of Balance was the same as the Vampire Champion: the person destined to return Balance was the same as the one who was to fight the Hylden Champion. That was wrong.

So he thought that in Kain, he was creating the Vampire Champion and the Scion of Balance in one, because for him, they were the same.

Now, because he thought he was creating the Vampire Champion, he assumed that this creature should be a vampire.

This does not, however, mean that the Scion of Balance should be a vampire...

I do not like prophesies being fufilled intentionally. If nothing else, it is presumptious.

But from the moment Ariel was murdered, it had to be Kain. That is, if the Scion of Balance truly had to be a balance guardian. (Dammit, this thing is more tangled than my mom's attempts at tatting.) There wasn't going to be another balance guardian without the scourge of the circle, and clearing away the old vampire haters seems like something that could only be part of the task of returning the pillars to vampire guardianship.
