When I go to TTLG forum I keep getting CGI timeouts:mad: And it takes FOREVER to load a thread with 4 posts on it:mad:

I'm on crappy 56k dialup, yet it's never usually this slow. I'm getting adsl in november will ttlg still be slow? Will I be wasting my hard earned dosh?

Is the TTLG server connected via a crappy 56k modem?:D

Of the three Thief forums TTLG is by far the slowest. However it has not appeared to be any slower as of late. (I'm on a 56 meself) Maybe The Trickster is at work again. :D Humm....have you honked off anybody who talks like Truman Capote? When things slow up....I, myself just lean back and sip on my pint. (Monks Member of course)

I have cable and even I have found it rather slow lately, at times. Sometimes it loads up quickly but sometimes it takes forever! I don't know what the problem is though. Until I saw this post, I wasn't even sure if it was the forum or my computer! :)

Whatever it was seems to have improved:eek: Don't get me wrong It's still slower to load than here:D and I really like the editors guild & fm forum.

Sorry if I sounded too negative of ttlg, I just wondered if it was my comp or the forum. Musta been rats:p

TTLG seems to be way overloaded in terms of server or bandwidth capacity. There's a bottleneck somewhere. Sometimes this makes it slow down to a crawl, in which case your modem speed makes no difference. The response goes up and down, and I am guessing this is related to the bandwidth it is serving. I imagine that when it is slow people abandon ship and then it speeds up again. I see the same thing with DSL. Sometimes it is so slow it is virtually unresponsive. DSL helps only when the site is running fast in the first place.

I unfortunately find the TTLG forums slow most of the time :( This has probably a lot to do with my crappy Internet connection. I’d love to post more over there, but the wait for pages to refresh gets me down too much! So I usually just browse from time to time. Shame, as it seems to be a lot more active than this place, which just seems to be much quieter than it once was?

If you’re only getting ADSL for browsing forums Thorin, I’d save ya money :D

No Rich, your crappy internet connection is not responsible. It is TTLG's ability to serve up the bandwidth. Now, if some of TTLG's dissatisfied customers would come over here, then we might have a little load leveling. This forum would become more interesting, and TTLG would run faster.:) I agree Rich, this forum is quieter than it once was. Although it goes up and down, the average posting rate seems to be down from a year ago.

No Rich, I'm getting adsl for online gaming, and downloading large files etc.

One thing you have to keep in mind... TTLG is not a commercial company server, it's an upgraded personal machine. Privately owned. This is something that we're looking into upgrading though. (costs money though)

There are other considerations of course, and Saam and myself are constantly trying to combat the slowdowns. Bear with us :)

BTW, interestingly enough... I find the forums here to be typically much slower. One possibility is the "path" your ISP takes to a server, and what's happening along that path (they don't always take the most direct route). Geographically closer is not always faster. I live very close to Eidos, and TTLG is on the other coast from me.

However, that is not to say TTLG doesn't suffer from sluggishness, it does... ;)
