Hi there:
There is hope for many people who have purchased a new Duo Core laptop and are wondering if Thief DS may run properly.
I got TDS running without any of the here mentioned issues such as:
- desktop crashes
- looped/unplayed in-game-movies (and crashes)
- USB mouse issues (unwanted movement)
- notebook graphics card incompatibilities (as opposed to desktop 3d cards)
- soundcard compatibility issues
- "CD not found" - issue
- any other issues related to Duo Core CPUs
I am very happy to announce that TDS worked right out of the box without any tweaking necessary on my part.
My specs:
HP dv8000t custom laptop
Win XP HOME SP 2
INTEL DUO CORE T2600 @ 2.16GHz (each CPU=2.16GHz - so its actually much faster)
2 GB DDR (...) RAM
100 GB Sata 5400rpm
Generic Soundcard, but with Audio Legacy drivers (seems 100% compatible with SoundBlaster etc.)
GeForce GO 7400 (256MB)
Devices/Software:
- regular Microsoft optical mouse with cord & USB connection (special mouse drivers NOT installed! - they can mess up your system!)
- no friggin Anti-Virus software installed
- GeForce settings all APPLICATION CONTROLLED (let TDS decide what graphics settings to use!)
- no other schmack running in the background!
- no conflicting software to run avis and other movie-files.
A miracle? I dunno... All I do know is that if you have a similiar laptop chances are high it works for you, too.
Just try to stick to the VERY BASICS in terms of software and drivers, let the application control your ATI or NVIDIA card as well as your soundcard.
Also helpful: Download and TRY THE DEMO first. If it runs smooth and without hiccups there's a high chance that the whole thing works, too.
Thief runs very smoothly at 800x600 with all options maxed out as well as at 1024x768 with BLOOM off and medium Shadow Detail.
It is still playable at 1024x768 with all options maxed out, but gets a little choppy at times (down to 30fps).
I'm glad that it's working. Check for other causes before you put the blame on the poor, innocent Duo Core...
