All that you need to do is disable hyperthreading in your BIOS.
Other than that, you can Alt+Tab out of the game and follow these steps:
1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del
2. Go to the "Processes" tab
3. Right-click on the game's EXE file (something like deusex.exe) and click "Set Affinity..."
4. Uncheck all of the CPUs except for "CPU 0"
If you follow this method, you will have to do this every time you start the game.

Nah, it shouldn't be a problem; but it won't run unless you do this, so there's not really an option.

I have been having this issue for over a year now and nothing seems to work. It is running on a single core machine and the exact thing happens to me. I put it on my opteron system with anx1900xt and now it is working. So after 2 years I have gone from :mad2: to :lmao:

Found this thread through Google. Is there anyway to make that CPU usage change permanent? I have to alt tab out every time or i get stuck at the main menu again.

What thread are you talking about? Does it have to do with setting the affinity on a dual core cpu? If so there is a program called setaffinity that will do it for you.

I got a Dell Dimension 3100
windows XP sp2
Intel P4 Pro with Hyperthreading
512 DDR2 ram
pny 6200 256MB PCI ( not express x16 does not have any slot but does have pci express x1 )
I can run the game with HT turned on so what is the problem I could not play game at all on my integrated graphics intel gma 900 but that had pixel shader 2.0 ?
Could you all need to update your chipset and video card drivers. Just a thought.
Also even if you disable hyper threading the game still crashes, after an hour and my graphics card goes to 60c
