Yep I knew that before I installed it from the amount of data on the Game DVD.

I think the setup program already tells you that. The games nowadays are actually too big to fit on HDD. This way there's a limit on how many games you have installed.
It's not fair... the game consoles don't need installation on HDD.
Oh, have you seen how the TRL DVD contains files at the size of normal CD? As if they're going to sell CD-packs.

3 gig for Zip's dialogue...
2 gig for Lara's clothes...
1 gig for Lara's curves..
1 gig for the levels...
.2 gig for copy protection.

It has to be up there if it isn't because the TRL DVD is a Dual Layer disc so they can't fit much more on it and have it playable on the Consoles unless they compress it.

I don't get why it's so big though really.

HL2 is a HUGE game with better graphics, more player interaction with HUGE levels and it takes less than 5 Gb of HD space. And you don't need the DVD in the drive to run it.

If u dont have space enought then byu new HDD..... i have 410G.....
Legends folder is 7G but in reality it need 9G... 2g for swap files. But it doesent mean that every game need different space for swap files.. No u must only see that HDD partition where u install games have allways 2-5G free space. My game partition is 90G and i use 2 for virtual memory, 2g for swap files and 1G is if i will need it for some reason. So my partition is 90G but in install max only 85... if it starts getting more than 85G in uninstall old games.... I recommend for everyone to leave about 5G free space...

Wasn't myst 4, 2 single Layer Discs? If I remember rightly installing it fully was 8GB. Which just beats legend

Ok, so i'm old, but i remember playing flight simulator on a ZX81 with 1kB of RAM (and the ram was the only memory it had; you loaded the program from a cassette onto RAM to play it). 1kB!

Legend is a Single Layer DVD 4.27 GB so they have plenty of room to add more going with a Dual layer DVD for the next game.

Would have been 7 CD's if it came on CD.

To answer the implicit question of this thread's topic, I'd say it thanks the size to the many different languages. Audiofiles of 5 languages isn't nothing :)
They really should have made a language selection during installation on a PC and only copy the required files.
Once my utility is done, I could try reducing the size of the bigfiles.
I've looked and it seems non-english content takes only up one GiB. Too bad.
