Now that the Xbox 360 is out and soon the PlayStation 3 will be out the next Tomb Raider game will probably look better than ever. Instead of coming out with story after story after story. There's been a trend with some franchises that are so popular that their most remembered games are made into remakes. Like Resident Evil with their remake on the gamecube which sold huge when it came out and also Metal Gear Solid did it, and Silent Hill is going to come out with a remake of their first game. Tomb Raider is so huge and their games so well remembered that instead of trying to think of another story, they should do an awesome remake of a previous game, or some of them, with the new controls, and added bonuses and the graphics of the new PS3 or 360. It would definately cut down on trying to think of a story and locations but would make them focus more on the content and game play and combat.
Which would you like seen done into a remake on the PS3 and 360?
For me my favorite was Tomb Raider 3 with the South Pacific Islands and Area 51 and India.
I only put the first 4 because they were the best and oldest games.

I don't want a remake of any game. I think it would be pointless. The old games don't need to be re-made. If anything, they should continue the AOD storyline because of the nice gap they've left between games.

Yeah, we don't need a remake. We all played the old games-- we want NEW ones.

(the remake idea has been tossed around so many times on this forum, and as I suggested before, it might be cool to revisit a classic level-- for example, maybe Lara needs to return to The Lost Valley in TR8, so we'd get to see that level in all new graphics-- but I don't want an entire remake.)

Aye, there are a fair few games being re-made these days. Take the PSP, you can get Worms and Lemmings on that, golden oldies re-made! :p
In fact, I think Tomb Raider 1 was released on the PSP

If they bought ANY of the TR games out as re-makes I wouldn't buy them... I mean, dude, I've already got them, why buy 'em again???

As for the "best and oldest games" I kinda agree, things started dying after TR4. Chronicles was good but very short, TR6 has gone down in computer history on a worldwide basis as a total disaster, TR7; good game but apparently very short.

I actually found TR4 on the long side, but still loved it. TR5 was shorter, but after playing a 29 levels from the previous game, no doubt it will seem short. I still loved TR5 though and felt quite satisfied after playing it. Loved AOD too, but am still disappointed that we won't know the ending.

In my opinion I think it would have been wise to even have a 2 minute FMV at the beginning of Legend closing up the storyline for AOD. That's like watching a movie, and mid way they decide to change the story completely. Um..doesn't work.

Yeah, I don't think TR5 was really any shorter than TR1, but like you said, after the enormous TR4 (and TR3 was huge too-- not as many levels, but the levels were ridiculously large), TR5 was bound to seem short.

And yes, it is a shame we'll never know how AOD ends. It was one of the few TR games to have an interesting plot, and yet, we'll never know it. Reminded me a bit of "Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon." By the way, the next "Broken Sword" game is called "Broken Sword: The Angel of Death." I thought that was a nice coincidence.

The whole point of a remake would be to take one of the games that made Tomb Raider what it is and do things with it that you couldnt do 10 years because of the limitations. Look at the draw distance playing Tomb Raider 1, reading the making of Legends in the guide they even say there were things they wanted to do with the first Tomb Raider but they couldnt. And also why was the Resident Evil remake on gamecube such a huge success? There are plenty of Tomb Raider fans that sometimes go back to play the first or second ones and would rather do it with today's graphics and technology.

If they varied it enough to keep things interesting (i.e-- don't JUST change the graphics), I might consider it, particularly if it sold for cheaper than a new game. But if all the puzzles and maps were the same with prettier graphics, than, nah, I don't think I'd be interested.

I don't want to see TR8 as a remake or something. But I wouldn't mind seeing the older games remade as a side project. This was done with some of the games from the King's Quest series and highly successful:thumbsup:

If there was ever to be a remake I think I'd like to see it happen to TR2 I think:)

That would be the best thing is to use the same story and locations and characters but build the levels different and better. When they made the Resident Evil remake or Metal Gear Solid, it was based on the same story and location, but the puzzles were different even though some of them were based on some of the same concepts, and even the enemies were different and far better.
There's nothing wrong with another story, BUT BUT if they try to make Tomb Raider say geared for a younger audience, or try to make it more hollywood like they did with the enemies in Legend by making them all wear black combat gear and you have to fight the same generic "bad guys" on every level!! :( Not to mention they added Zip and Alister in to make it more "hollywood". SO if they're going to add more generic hollywood crapp, then i would rather Tomb Raider keep it's identity and do a remake of one of the first games that everyone loved. At least that way people couldnt say it's gotten too easy or too pansy.
P.S. IN Tomb Raider 2 standing toe to toe against that chinese dragon in that alternate dimension with those demon statues coming alive was far better than pulling any of this other crapp like trying to drop cages on a bosses head, or having a guy run around at lightspeed spraying pixie dust out of his sword like Legends. Tomb Raider 2 was when you relied on your grenade launcher and M16 and your run-like-hell skills while a dragon tried to light you up. That was more adrenaline, than having Lara argue with Amanda... some former student... They sure pansied it up this time. And if they try to make it more generic or hollywood, then i would rather have them do a remake.
You know how they made it more hollywood and pansy and all kiddie and politically correct because when you fight the first jaguar in Legends Alister whines how "Why predators attack prey larger than themselves..." Tomb Raider 2 when a yeti charged at you in Tibet you blew it apart on site with the grenade launcher and it's arms and legs would fly in all directions all over the walls. If they try to pull this hollywood political correct crapp like they did i would rather have them do a remake of a Tomb Raider game that was untainted by the guys who made it worrying about what everyone thinks.

Agreed! Some of us really loved AOD's storyline. I am on the last level of TR5, the first cyborg. I HATE that GAME!!! It's almost impossible and H&K was definitely a really dumb piece of metal someone can lay his/her hands on. TR3 and TR4 are good, haven't completed them though, but definitely better than TR5. I don't want any remakes.. PLEASE! And close up AOD's open ending, if they aren't gonna continue it.

In my opinion I think it would have been wise to even have a 2 minute FMV at the beginning of Legend closing up the storyline for AOD. That's like watching a movie, and mid way they decide to change the story completely. Um..doesn't work.

Again, agreed! And I expected something like that... but then someone (can't remember who) told me that Eidos and CD are trying to 'forget' AOD. Really stupid of them! (IMHO)

Yeah, they're trying to pretend it never existed. But you can't do that and expect fans to just go along with it. I even suggested publishing the novel that was written, but apparently Eidos said there wasn't one. But when I was in contact with Core they said there was! Go figure :P

In any case, it's almost too late to bridge the gap because they went ahead and released another game. I just hope someday we'll have answers :)

Graphics are only part of what makes tombraider great. By making a remake you take away the story because everyone already knows it.

If you actually did make one of the first 4 games with the new graphics im pretty sure we would be looking at our first ever 1 terabyte game because of the sheer length.

But in my opinion there isn't anything wrong with the graphics from the other games. At the time when they came out they were amazing. I still like them! Although 1 and 2 are a bit hard on the eyes now ;) I don't know...they're classics. I say leave em :)

I would really like to see TR 1 remade or TR 2 if any.

I think a remade TR 1 would look really good with todays graphics, it was an awesome game.

The 1st 4 games were all good, my personal Favorites were 1 and 4, 2 and 3 were great too though.

It's the same with for example, House Music Classics. Remaking them is not original. It's lame, on profit based and doesn't contribute to the Old Feeling.

Mangar's idea of revisiting old locations (but not repeating identical experiences) is the best idea. Redoing the games is no good for someone like me, I've played them too much already.

But mostly I'd like the developers to dream up new locations and places to visit and explore. :)

There is no negligible defference between the xbox 360 and the playstation 3...meaning the same game on the PS3 can be done just as good (or better) on the 360, or vice versa.

I love the fantastic first 4, Yes, I do. I see no reason to remake them. I need a TR8 of the quality of the first 4! Quality! Ok?

LOL, I'm trying to pretend it never existed either! :D

They could make a good movie out of that story though... which I might even enjoy.

I don't care much for a remake of the originals since once you've solved the puzzes, you know them and the surprise factor is gone. No pretty grafix could make up for that.

Don't get me wrong. I love good grafix and I was as blown away as the next man when I saw TRL demo. But instead of making a remake of the classics, or making a new simpleton game, maybe they should start thinking as tombraiders and finally come up with a new, challenging game. I don't really care much for the plot... as long as it gets me to great places and wicked puzzles.

Hey... just one question. If they are really pretending that the others games never happened.... then why did they bring back the classic outfit and the along the red flares etc. the natla crates.... i think it would make most sense if Legend happened years after AOD. And btw. who says the older games happened in the way they were released....

I would like to see the return of ATVs, Kayaks, & snowmobiles. And the valley of the kings jeep chase from 4. I want realistic vehicles - that cheesy arcade race motocycle was the biggest disappointment of Legend
