Hi,

I'm trying to run ffvii on my laptop and i am using the laptop controls patch but when i try to name my character i cannot exit the name screen because the enter key does not work even though it works fine in the field.

can anyone suggest anything besides giving me the advice to play on a pc?

like i said i am already using the laptop controls patch.

thanks.

Honestly, I don't even remember how the naming went. Didn't you need to highlight OK using the directionals and then push Enter?

About the only thing I can think of that would bypass the keypad altogether would be to use a gamepad. And I don't know if you can use one with a laptop. Can't see why you couldn't if you get one with a USB connection.

you can type in your name but the directionals dont work on the name screen thus not being bale to highlight the dont button... i dont know its weird youd prolly have to see it... if eidos or whoever, is going to write a patch why couldnt they make sure it worked.

Hey,

I noticed the last post to this thread was old, but I went looking for a solution for this same problem and found your post, so... did you ever find a way to fix it? Thing is, -I- never had this problem on my own laptop, but a friend of mine now has the -exact- same problem you described in your post.

I have downloaded the patch for her and will see if that helps, but it may not--according to other posts I've read. Any ideas?

Try turning on NumLock on your laptop.

This will make the the right hand side of your laptop keyboard similar to the numeric keypad and you should be able to get over to the right to confirm name.

Then turn NumLock off and play as normal.

Hey,

Thanks for the tip, but I already tried that soon after realizing there was a problem with it.

You sure you tried all your keys with the NumLock on...one of em should be the right hand eqivalent.

Failing that it may be worth trying a joypad...but dont know if this will work.

I used to copy my saved game to my PC, name the characters, save game and then copy saved game back to laptop....that was until I found NumLock trick.

Yeah the name screen seems to go by the default numpad controls even if you have changed them. On my laptop I have both 'numlock' and 'fn' which should both activate the numpad... but numlock + enter does not work while fn + enter DOES work to get through the naming screen.

Basically if you don't have that function key you might be screwed unless they bother to patch this one screen that doesn't play by the rules.

Yeah hi,

I'm having this exact problem with my laptop. I have tried everything - from trying the numpad controls, to changing the game controls to different buttons once it started - but --nothing-- works when I get to the name screen. I can't seem to exit it. I set my ENTER key to being NUMPAD 5 and when I click it inside the name screen the cursor jumps to SELECT but refuses to actually proceed.

I have 3 joypads at home and none of them have a compatible slot with my laptop. Any computer guru that knows a solution to this? :)

Thanks.

mines kind of weird, you have to press and hold the blue fn button, then press enter even though theres no blue fn keys on the enter button

I can try to contact someone important from Eidos... but the 2 guys I used to know, don't work there anymore.

They took off FF7 from their support for some reason. You may be able to find the patch through Yahoo or something?

Well.... this is the response....

"FF7 is not going to be added back to officiall customer support. If they contact customer support under "game title not on list" they can work at getting the patch to the user."

Not on list webpage (http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/CustomerSupport/FaqAnswer.jsp?faq=1164&game=181&platform=2&problemType=4)

After selecting the Didn't help show me more...and then None of these suggestions have helped! I would like to enter a Support Request, you get this (http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/CustomerSupport/SupportRequest_1.jsp?problemType=5&game=181&platform=3)

Guess then they will email it to you, I don't know. They sure made things difficult....

I have a function key (Fn) on my laptop and i tried holding it and then pressing enter at the name screen but it didn't work. How did you get it to work?
