Is this the latest in the Nokia series or are there better?
I'm sortta asking this cos I'm saving up for a phone and I'd like to know that I'm getting a good one (I don't know a thing about brands, but all my friends seem to have Nokias).
:confused::confused::confused:

Hey koolkat,
you got your account sorted out I see.
I, like you would like a nice shiney new mobile but can't afford one at the moment, especially not at pay as you go prices.
I think that nokia 3510 is the latest in the kinda 3210/3310/3330 series type thing as 3410 and 3510 came out at about the same sort of time.
I seen a nice new shiney sony erricson (I think) with a colour screen.
Only problem is it would cost about £300, so I would settle for a nokia if I could afford one, but I am now paying for driving lessons. £16 a lesson which isn't too bad I suppose, but still, takes a large chunk out of my cash each week.

I've had a couple Nokia's and didn't care much for either of them. Neither seemed loud enough to use in a noisy area, especially the ringer. The car phone (with a cord to the handset) was plagued with bad connections in the plug as well.
I just got rid of an Eriksson. I liked the phone well enough, but not the service provider.
The one I have now is made by "LG Electronics," model VX1. So far I like it. The cell company said that was a division of Goldstar, but you'd have no way of knowing that by looking at the phone.
It was one of the more expensive models, but I got it because I wanted to be able to use a computer through it and it was one of the few models with that capability that they actually had the cable for.
Of course, since you're in the UK, the models you have may not be the same as the ones here.

I have a Siemens C45. I like it. It works. But then my policy on things is "If it does the job I want it to (and not badly), I like it." IE -> I don't play the games, I don't use WAP (althought it has it), etc, etc.
I'd be happy with something that could only make phone calls, to be honest. Problem is the cord is too short on the one at home. ;)
Don't forget to choose a Tariff / Agreement that works for you. If you plan to use it a lot, go for contract. Normally so much a month and they you get 100 free mins call time + 100 free messages a month (or whatever). But sometimes have minimum contracts of 6 months or a year.
However if you are not going to use it much then go for pay-as-you-go because there are no montly charges. But the calls tend to cost more when you make them. (EG - I made two £10 top up cards last a whole year on this, and it cost £20. Nothing more.).
EDIT - I believe Nokia phones have very good battery lifes. My sisters can go a week without needing a recharge. I have to do mine every three days or so. Not a major point but every bit of info helps? Eh? Okay, maybe not, but still. :D
EDIT 2 - Also, "BT Cellnet" isnt a brand of phone. They are a service provider. Now called "O2". I use them. But only had them a week . . so can't comment on them. Used to be TMobile. But never used them enough to comment.

Not sure. I have a Samsung. Not sure what type it is though. I got through Sprint PCS. It is pretty reliable and durable as hell. It looks like its been kicked around one too many times during a football game. But it works fine and i love the voice feature. Just say a person's name and it dials their number. You have to put the number first and say their name. It will then record it and be available for use the next time you say that person's name. I also love being able to check my emails on my phone. I'm still behind in the cell phone era but i'm trying though.

A word about batteries in Nokia phones (and the following is directed at the older models, I don't know if this has been improved in new ones): Because the battery itself forms a part of the phone's outer shell, it is subject to impacts which may damage the connection between battery and the phone. I've had a few older Nokias and they all had this fault: quite often the phone turned itself off because of some tiny movement of the battery. Now I have a Siemens phone in which the battery is behind a cover and I've never had any problems with it. Old Nokias had also sometimes a bad connection with the SIM card which also shuts down any call you may be having. Battery life itself was good, however, unlike in Sony phones which seem to drain the battery faster than anything else.

Thanx for your help.
Sorry about the BT Cellnet. I meant a phillips one. I thought it might be a BTcellnet cos the one my mum's got has it on the LCD screen. As you can see I really do not know a lot about phones.:D
The Nokia 5510 sounds good. I'll look into it.
I know what you mean about expense, Jeffers. I'm only wanting mine for emergancies (I still want it to be a good one, though. ;)) cos my mum thinks it's a good idea for me to carry a mobile incase something happens and especially as she's worried about me since Holly and Jessica and Milly Dowler. She thinks it's a goos idea if we can get in touch.
D'ya really think a laptop would be good? It would help with my studies, I guess. :)
I'll have to look it up, cos I dunno how much one would be.

Well I've sold cell phones for the past two and a half years.
I'd say a Nokia is an excellent choice, all though Samsung has been dominating the market as of late (this is all in the US, I don't know about the UK). And yes that's the latest series.
In about another year though we're going to see a huge drop in price of color LCD screens with the further technology of the OLED (organic liquid crystal display, it's a higher resolution and much cheaper to make). What this means is we're going to have phones that can display full web-pages with no problem, and they won't be overpriced to all hell.
The thing is, stability is going to differ between companies, and American still uses CDMA. I don't know what the UK uses at this moment. The best thing for you to do is look that the consumer reports, but remember to look at them for what company you're looking at as well (i.e. Motorola works very well on Analog networks but if you use a Motorola phone on a PCS network it's very buggy).
best of luck with your purchase.
edit: a tip for your battery.
If you want your battery to last longer this is what you're going to need to do. The first time you charge it make sure it's charged all the way up... then the first time you use it MAKE SURE the battery drops all the way down and dies on you. It's best to do this the first few times with your phone to break the battery in.
Also, it's better to let it lose its charge all or most of the way. DO NOT PUT IT ON THE CHARGER EVERY NIGHT. This will only kill your battery. The more you work your battery out, the longer it will last.
Reason being is a rechargeable battery still has a memory. Even Lithium Ion batteries. It's not nearly as bad as say, a NiMHD battery but it's still there. If you only let your battery charge half way down every time, it's almost like your carving a notch in wood (lets say the wood log is a gauge for your battery life)... it starts out as a little scratch but soon it becomes a dent and you cut half of the log off... so if you only let it charge half way down... you're actually cutting the battery life in half. So only charge it when it's needed and if you get a cradle with it, it should have a refresher in it... use that about every three times you charge (what that does is drain all the battery life out of your phone, and then charge it up all the way).
have fun.

Thanx for the info, it'll really help for when I buy my phone.
All my friends have Nokias as the Samsungs are quite pricy over here for our teenage salaries. LOL:D
Actually, I'm really excited at the moment cos my cousin works in a hotel and gave the boss my number so that he can phone me and offer me a job cos there's one free and I need work. :D
Sounds weird, but I can't wait to get out there and work. LOL

Work grows rather tiresome after the initial novelty wears off...
*shrugs* but you still have to pay bills.
Just be careful not to pick a stupid job you'll hate... my first job was life guarding at a waterpark... I did that for 4 years....

REALLY!?! Now that has me interested. I can't wait.....
Shame about rip off Britain though, amazing how they get away ripping us off so much with high prices.
I would like a laptop, but one thing to consider, as I know your in a pretty similar situation to me Koolkat is that a laptop is about twice the price of a similar specificed desktop system. meaning, and this is what I am trying to work out as I may be going to university next year, is double the price really worth paying for more portability. Only you can answer that for what you want to use it for. But yet again another example of rip off britain I suppose. :D

LOL, :D
Britain does tend to rip us off. :p
I don't think I can afford a laptop at the moment. I guess I'll wait till I get things sorted out. :)
I'm interested in the Organic LCD screens. Sounds cool. Whole web pages? Wow!
