Hi,
I've got the game, installed it, configured and when i boot up the game i hear Eidos logo coming up but i dont see it, screen stays always black and it stays that way until i reboot my computer because ALT-F4, CTRL-ALT-DEL wont work :( (is there any way to run in window mode so i dont have to reboot?)
I already tried all of the patches available that suit for my system but i can't make it run.
System Specs:
Athlon XP +2400
768 DDR Ram
GeForce 6600GT 128mb, 78.01 WHQL Drivers (Latest)
Windows XP Pro
If someone could give some support i would appreciate
PS: Sorry for my mediocre english
Thanks,

Try using the upsidedown patch....
Did you install the movieplayer that comes with the game? You need to install that to see the movies... Should have been an option during in the Install screen....near the bottom, if I recall.

Try setting your FF7.exe shortcut to run under Windows 98 Compatibility.
To do this:
Right click on your Final Fantasy Icon
Go to the Compatibility (tab)
Check "Run this program in compatibility for:"
Select Windows 98 / Windows Me
Apply, and OK

Well...the solution for this game is always the same.
If they don't work...then I have no idea.
Try putting sound accleration into Basic mode.
Do that by typing dxdiag in the run menu of windows...and going to the Sound Tab and moving the slider a few notches to the left.
This can stop crashes related to sound timing problems.... In my instance while using a SB-live card with DX9 and Win98SE, it helped stop a crash during the Biglight.avi, during the dolphin Splash effect, and for battles (including the first battle...got nothing but a blank screen, until I put it into basic sound). But all those problems are traced back to a faulty SB-live Sound driver....for Win98SE, with SBlive and DX9 problems. Creative, doesn't support Win98 anymore. I don't think this should be a problem with WinXP. But it's a simple fix, so trying, it doesn't take long....don't even need to reboot, to try it.
I don't know any workarounds for ATI cards....
Geforce card solutions are all over the forum....
If the 8bit pallet says FAIL...install the whole TNT patch, and check the Nivida TNT option...and then choose Direct3d Acceleration on the pulldown menu.
If it ever says PASS, you need to figure out a way to get it to say FAIL. The TNT patch is made for a video driver that has it disabled. The test must say FAIL, for the TNT patch to work, period. And I only know a way to do it with Nvidia not ATI.....and I'm not even sure if Rivatuner can still disable the 8 bit pallet. It can if the guy that maintains that Rivatuner software stay's on top of it, and releases a new version with every new driver....if he doesn't, then you're, most likely, stuck. I don't think the recent Nvidia drives say Pass for that Test, anyway...so shouldn't be a worry.
But I think ATI does (if it says Fail, then the process of the TNT may work, but I couldn't tell you, first hand....never owned an ATI card. Not sure if the Direct3d pulldown will activate with a ATI card, if it doesn't you'll have to go into the registery and change the values manually....which I can't give instructions to, because I don't remember what value equals what or what line it is...I just remember something about it being a 0, 1, 2 type value. where 0= something and the other numbers equal other things.... like 0=software 1=Direct3d 2=OpenGL ...but that is only an example...I don't remember what number equals what or if it was 1, 2, 3 or 0, 1, 2. And I'm not curious enough to find out... I do know that the OpenGL one is broken.). I don't know of any 3rd party software that will dig into the ATI driver and break it.....if you can find one, then the TNT patch would be the thing to try.
Ideally if it says Pass, it should work out of the box...except for a few things. The orginal FF7config program, would reconize your card....being that the program can't see into the future....it won't see these new cards on the list. The work around used to be to use the FF7config from the TNT patch and with the orginal FF7 program... (but) Secondly...the 8bit pallet was usually broken to begin with, or not 100% correct, which would cause wierd layering effects. So, to put it simply...if it says Pass, it most likely not going to work in Hardware mode, at all.
As for Software mode....I think it works out of the box....but again, not sure. It's been a very long time since I've even bothered with Software mode. I guess I should try it, just to see if it works, without having to do anything. I'm pretty sure it does. Anyway, if Software mode is your goal...then don't even touch the TNT Patch.
As for the movies not playing.... installing the movie player should fix it. And I don't remember having any problems installing it on my WinXP SP2. But...you can also try installing the upside-down movie patch. It should install the correct codecs for the movies.
