controlling units in battle

we can tell me how to control the units in battle?

I would like to pause the game and give my orders to my units and then play
but in pause mode your not allowed to do that

how do you deal with this?

Well, if you install the latest patch then you should be able to reduce the speed at very slow speeds and give orders like that. There is no way to give orders while the game is paused.
