I guess I'm not alone in my tendency to make piles. In my house, the saying is "no flat surface is sacred." So to break a conversation off of this thread, (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?p=487812#post487812) what have you got piled on top of other things?
On top of my PS2... My Norbert dragon figure and my Soul Reaver tape.
On top of my scanner... various types of blank paper, a pamphlet on how to make millefore beads, a small sewing project, an empty videocassette box, a package of beading needles, and my redundant (unlabled) cd of digital photos from 2003.
On top of my drafting table... the box that my scanner is supposed to be stored in, the rest of the sewing project that's sitting on my scanner, a jar of blue paint, a cheap keyboard in a box, a pile of unidentified papers that I don't want to risk disturbing, a small cd wallet, a partially-eaten chocolate bar, and several other things that are going to slide off if I keep looking at them funny.

ok, first of all, hurray for the first formal meeting of TSPTTOA. ;) (pronounced tispitoa?)
lets see, the top of my tv cabinet is the dump spot for mail i dont feel like opening, new cd cases, deodorant, various tools that i have no use for, atm receipts, paycheck stubs. my alarm clock rests there as well, and on top of that is my gameboy storage box.
my computer "desk" (which is really a converted table) holds more mail, a flashlight, misc. birthday cards, more atm receipts, more check stubs, a retired keyboard, pocket change, magazines, a game box, various soda cans, and an unused tv remote.
the top of my dresser stores a sweatshirt, a pump for an air mattress (which is what i sleep on), cold medicines, snack items, books, and a disturbing amount of dust.
finally, i have a stack of notebooks, magazines, insurance info from work, my cd book, and Other Miscellaneous Things, that gets shifted from my bed to my chair when its sleep time, and back to my bed when its sit down time.
other than my shelves (which are also crammed with Miscellaneous Things), those are thankfully the only flat surfaces in my current room... except for my floor, that is, which doubles as storage space for amps/guitars, empty boxes, dirty laundry, my change bank, and the constantly regenerating piles of cat hair.

My piling problem isn't quite that bad. On top of the PS2 sits the input switchbox and the controller. The GC just holds up the controller.
The real problem lies on my computer desk out in the hall, which primarily holds my old 486. It's also the pen/pencil respository, important papers, payment coupon books, envelopes, all my med. insurance claim submissions and paid invoices, and a myriad of junk underneath I can't even list.

I've typed 3000 words in the past 3 hours, my fingers are dead - but boy have I got to share this.
On top of my TV (to my right) there is:
King Authur sountrack
Primal (game) soundtrack
Soul Reaver: Quest for Melchiah CD
Murder by Numbers - DVD
SNES (games console)
On top of my video player (yes, VHS) is my PS2. On top of which are:
PCI card for my computer - it's got lights in it, though my CPU's heatskin/fan and PSU provide enough light inside..... for now
... and more random stuff I'd really REALLY not move (for fear of my life)
On top of my speakers:
Front Speaker - Soul Reaver t-shirt and "Playstation Experiance 2003" t-shirt
Front-right Speaker: Half full pint-glass 'o water
Front left Speaker: Deorant spray (Lynx: Africa)
Rear Left: Remote control for CD player
Rear Right: Candle
Sub: Remote control for speakers, with a pile of blank CD's.
On top of my scanner there is:
My hat (black, umm, ska-punish type)
My shades
A myriad of Warhammer playing cards I bought over 5 years ago
My loose change jar
As for my desk, well - thats just an entirely different story....
there's really no order to it. everything changes every day. so i'll start with my floor, where i've got lots and lots of cds piled around (nothing important) and lots of papers with various stuff on them (like myst puzzle diaries). my desk is full of other cds, some books i'm reading (Shadows of the Hegemon and The Holy Bible, among other ones my brother's reading) and my really cool john lennon glasses. on my tv i've got some other books i've read and left around, being too lazy to put them back in their place, the remote (which i always lose around the room), a very old copy of a pc games magazine and some other useless stuff.
the rest is ordered in shelves on the wall. i promise to clean it up someday, mom. :p

lets see here... To start, in the corner of my room I have an amp for my bass. On top of that is my CD collection, on top of that is my video games collection (everything from the original Zelda to the latest Silent Hill), on top of that is about 3 feet of clothes that don't fit, on top of that is my bass, on top of that is another protective layer of clothes, on top of that is my laundry basket (talk about irony), on top of that is my TV, on top of that is my VCR, on top of that is my PS2, on top of that is my NES, on top of that is my DVD collection, on top of that is a Sega, and on top of that is a lot of dust. It's all very carefully balanced, and filled with random papers.
