hey IM trying to get blood omen 1 to work on my XP computer, it Currently freezers after the conversation in the tavern or after kain is remade into a vampire depending on if i skip the first cut scenre or not.
I think this is down to the fact that my processer been to fast for this dos based game.
has anyone successfully installed and ran this game on a good XP computer.
I'd love some help with getting this game to work proply on my xp computer.

ive tryed here already. says something about a program to slow my processer down,
but since i dont know what to look for it aint no help.
that site has a file you can download with a fix or something I thought? I remember getting it and it ran on XP on mine. There were problems though. I had a selective startup with win 98 and XP tho so didn't really uase it on XP (and now I only have xp but don't play games on my pc ever)

On PCs faster than around 2GHz, you need a utility to slow down the computer, like I told him, and like it says on the page on my site. I don't need one, so I don't have any recommendations.
The solution which I found by accident is to ctrl-alt-del to bring up task manager move to the "processes" tab and then move up and down through all processes with the arrow keys - keep doing that and the game will eventually brighten and then minimise, you can then restore it and play normally. (I didnt use any CPU killer software - I have a 3GHz processor).
Other than that playing it on a modern PC was great - no loading times at all, anywhere - having played the PC version originally on a P200 PC and then more recently played the playstation version on my girlfriends PSX it was great to say goodbye to those loading times :)

THans dude i just tryed this and it works fine. there just a few thiings i want to know Do you get any other minor problem,
and Do you need to press alt-ctrl-dell after every cut scene or is once enough?
I had to do it after most cutscenes which was irritating but not the end of the world. Obviously if it was a brand new game Id just bought from a shop and I had to do it then Id be annoyed, but for a game developed so long ago its not so bad. And like I said, the 0 loading times are a massive bonus - when I was playing it on the PSX I was really getting sick of changing weapons: Id want some blood so Id go switch to the mace which would take 10 seconds or so and then theres be some demons or undead or such and Id have to switch to another weapon taking another 10 seconds or so, on a modern PC the weapon switching is seamless :)

ITS ok for the moment i guess but its not a perminent solution is it.
well the FMVs arent that frequent...and throughout the entire game theres only 3 FMVs where it could potentially be a real problem (FMVs that lead onto a boss - but at worst that costs you a heart of darkness).
I played through the entire game doing the ctrl-alt-del thing to fix it whenever the glitch happened. In theory, using CPU killer software to slow down your CPU should allow the game to run flawlessly on a modern PC using the patch...but it didnt work for me - I tried slowing down to anything from 20% to 90ish% and it didnt work. I have read about people using this kind of software and it working fine - so try that and see if it works for you, if it doesnt then you're stuck using the workaround that I found.

Use this CPU killer, around 80%. Keep it running while you're playing the game:

Remember you also need to download the patch from blincon's the lost worlds
I tried a CPU killer and it didnt help me (just made the FMVs run a bit less smoothly), but like I said - try it and it might work for you.

a day? are you sure? that would not be playing
obviosuly I didnt get a huge number of secrets :p
and it was the PC version so the loading times werent too bad (even on my old P200).
Although maybe I am giving myself too much credit and it was more like two days :p

You can grab version 1.3 BETA here (http://home.comcast.net/~carebears4every1/KainSetup.exe)
Changes in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain version 1.3 BETA 6/XX/05
*Added desktop shortcut
*Added integrated CPU slowdown for users that have frequent crashes (XP only)
I fiddled with the idea of merging the slowdown program into a single executable with the game exe but I realized that would pretty much destroy the user's ability to fine tune the rate of slowdown (which would stink). Also it would leave windows 2000 users out in the cold (since I am one I wont do that). Anyway let me know if any of you still having trouble get improved performance. You can edit the file "kain.vbs" to change the automatic rate of slowdown; where you see tons of "{RIGHT}"'s just add more to increase the slowdown above 50%.

How to save game Blood Omen 1? I'm infront shrine and I hit action and nothing happens. WTF?!
you should just walk onto the shrine and a box will pop up asking if you want to save.

There is always a chance the fix wont work for you and the game will freeze up as usual. Just have to force the program closed or restart if that happens. Nothing really bad could happen from the patch; it only messes with the game folder and no other part of your system.

If I understand what you wrote about how it works all this thing will do is slow down my processer right.
Then when I leave the game the processer returns to its original speed.

Yes, that is the only difference between the 1.2 and the 1.3 patch.
For some reason, the patch doesn't create the .vbs file for me. Could you provide the text of the vbs file here or upload it separately?

Just after Ariel speaks with Kain for the first time at the Pillars with Kain in the game, it freezes so I can't move or do anything. I applied the patch and the follow XP compatibility fixes:
Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 95
And the following Display Settings:
Run in 256 colors
Run in 640x480 screen resolution
Disable visual themes
And applied the "Turn off advanced text services for this program" Input settings
Any suggestions???

forget the compatbillity color res and all that **** that means nothing.
Ha ha censored :D
I think it's stupid but whatever I won't argue.
