Please post any problems you are having with Project: Snowblind in this thread. Please make sure to specify whether the problem occured while playing single player or online, and what platform. (PS2 or Xbox). ;)

One thing I got from a guy in our test department.

In Ashoka's Garden, if player walks to any of the four cantilevered bridge ends, climbs onto the railing, faces straight up in the air, and keeps jumping then he will hit the death plane, killing his character instantly and turning the screen grey.

Every time I try and click on connect, it tells me it's looking for a game servers and then it tells me the servers are busy or down four routine maintenance. Also, I'm having difficulty creating an online account, it "times out" and tells me to retry at a less busy time. Any advice?

What system are you playing on? Also, what kind of internet connection do you have? Dial-up, cable, satellite, dsl...?

Yeah, sorry, forgot the important stuff.

I'm trying to connect with my ps2 version of Project: Snowblind. I have a Cable Modem connection that works through a wireless router. I play socom 2 and EA games all the time and they work, but for some reason, Snowblind won't work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The only problem that I have encountered is that when I leave a game, sometimes the "leaving game" screen stays up for so long that I have to turn the power off and restart the game.

all connection problems can probably be resolved with the instruction manuals "troubleshooting" section (p26) under "firewalls". since your socom2 and EA games works properly online then the problem lies with your router.

i myself didnt have any problems connecting but i did have problems joining some rooms. so what i did was turn on the DMZ on my router for the ps2 and all the rooms are now available to me. before some rooms are red, now their not. :D

Thanks for the Tip. I turned on my DMZ, and i tried turning off the firewall on my linksys wireless router. It connects to the patch server just fine but when I try and create an online account or join the game rooms, it keeps timing out or telling me the servers are down.

Any other suggestions? I may call tech suppor this weekend or something.

I posted this in another topic but apparently noone wants to help me out theres, so im gonna try it in here.

I have a BEFW11S4 Linksys wireless-B router and Snowblind on ps2 and have never had a problem with a game before(Just as a side note, I dont use a wireless reciever. Everything is side by side connected with ethernet cords.) It was error 612 and it got online but wouldnt go past the DNAS Screen. My ps2 is not modded nor do i have any added accessories on it aside from HDD and the Network Adapter. In fact, it is the newest model that came out just before the slim ps2's. That being said, I tried to fix all the stuff up and open UDP 9103 like the manual says but cant figure it out. Knowing that games have worked before i stuck the ethernet cord directly from the modem to the ps2 and WALAA, it worked! But whats the fun in that when you cant have a ps2, xbox, pc, and another ps2 going at the same time? One of you network geniuses help me out and gimme a step by step or what have you. Thanks much ladies and gents!

Please post help here incase anyone else is having the same trouble.

"i stuck the ethernet cord directly from the modem to the ps2 and WALAA, it worked!"

since with worked with you connecting the ps2 to the broadband modem directly, that seems to me its your router that has a problem. make sure you got the lastest firmware for your router and make sure you got the right IP for that opened UDP port. cus i'm guessing you got automatic IP with your network and your ps2-networkadptr changed IP on you.

sorry if it doesnt help, thats all i can tell you.

Ya I realize i gotta do something with the router, I was just hoping someone with the same router could gimmer their settings or something.

Think they'll put a patch online for these glitches? or if people don't have online put the patches out at selected stores for people to pick up? something that binds onto the save file on the 8mb chip.... that would work just fine, it would fix the problems and there would be little fuss..

You guys need to fix the headset issue...some of the games i play, the headset don't work and some of the games i play in work...Also who the heck is speaking? You guys should add a thing where when a person speaks on the mic, make their name appear...what's the point of the headset if you don't know who's talking? We can't have strageties if we don't know who's talkng. Also, in some maps, it can get VERYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY laggy. If a couple of cars/tanks get in one spot, then the lag starts to go crazy. Fix these 3 problems and this game would be WAYYYYYYY better. I am playing this game on the ps2 and I got comcast cable using a router. I really like this game but if you guys can fix those, then this game would be one of the top games this year so far..Thanks.

Letter to Eidos and Crystal Dynamics regarding issues with Project: Snowblind’s multiplayer on Xbox live

I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Project: Snowblind for many months. When I finally got a chance to play it I was in some regards, disappointed. While the single player portions sings, the multi-player component leaves something to be desired. Regrettable, it apparent the online portion was a tacked on after thought. The game would have benefited more form an offline/split screen mode since from a technical standpoint it wasn’t built to handle online very well, detracting for its overall experience.
I know Crystal Dynamics already has my $50 and video games are unfortunately items that cannot be returned for full value, so it probably doesn't matter what I say. I imagine this post will be deleted since I am not signing the praises of this game’s MP component, but I do has legitimate with Project: Snowblinds’s online play on Xbox live. I haven’t been the only one to experience this, check out what some others XBOX Snowblind players experienced at IGN.com. A few have already returned the game even at a loss of at least $15 which isn’t fair.

1. Aiming and tracking an enemy in online multi-player is more difficult than it should be to do jerky character animations, visual clipping. Does Eidos/Crystal Dynamics plan to address these issues? This game’s online multi-player mode had some serious potential but as it is, aiming at characters that look like epileptic monkeys on crack is a frustrating experience. I play others games online and from experience know that aiming need not be a frustrating ordeal. Even though Halo 2 may not be perfect, it is at least a good example of how smooth an online shooter should be. Characters shouldn’t disappear then reappear, they shouldn’t ice-skate across the map, character shouldn’t have their lower body sunken into the bottom of the map, and in 2005 the character models shouldn’t jerky animation reminiscent of games 5 years old. Was the online component even tested? How could any game company in 2005 have been proud of the way this game’s multi-player component functions on a technical level? Perhaps these issues are common on PS2 since people are really digging it but for Xbox it seems dumbed down to the point of being crippled.

2. I’m not sure if Eidos is aware of this but in its current state, the ranking system is pretty useless. People are dropping out last moment if their team is loosing or switching over to the winning team. What is the point of a ranking system if it doesn’t in anyway indicate the player’s level? When you join a game that ends in 3 seconds, if you happened to join on the losing team, it counts as a loss for you, even if you didn’t fire a single shot.

3. The audio looks like it never went to testing. The audio drops out in the middle of games for no reason. You never know who is talking

I will relay these concerns to the customer support number in the game booklet and try to find contact numbers for Eidos and Crystal dynamics. I’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they address these problems with some kind of patch, if these problems can even be corrected. I just want them to know problems exist, otherwise they’d think there was nothing fix. If you are an Xbox owner and have experienced similar issues please contact me and Eidos/Crystal Dynamics as well.

Best regards,
Danny

The "Red Room" problem can be solve by going to this sticky (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=48931) about UDP port forwarding. As for me, I solved this problem by putting my PS2'sNetworkAdapter on DMZ from my router, this way all the ports are open.

DMZ stands for Demilitarized Zone. It's a section of your network that is segragated from the user portion of your network. It's usually used in enterprise level networks. If you need help figuring out how to set one up post a thread.

On Killzone, I changed my L2 to chat and my L1 to throw grenades. I hated having to stop running in order to throw grenades or talk. I put crouch on square and toggle because I'm not running when I need to use crouch.

I play Snowblind on XBL and I have the same problems that Danny listed above...ALL OF THE BELOW ARE MP PROBLEMS

1. People jerk around, impossible to aim.

2. Team switching sucks

3. Joining a game sucks if the game is almost over, then you're screwed and you get a loss (usually)

4. I don't have a problem with the sound, but if there could be a name next to the mic icon it'd be great. I get really sick of asking, "...wait, who's this talking?" and then needing to go into the menu and see who this person is...

5. Game freezes - I know for sure that me and a friend have HUGE problems with the game freezing, I have frozen in-game at least 2 times and after leaving a game about 4 times, and then once it froze while trying to get into a game.

Otherwise, I really like your game, and if there are fixes and if the graphics run smoother I'd keep playing, and log more games than I already have... (only about 30 games)

Please release an update for the xbox version that includes legacy thumbsticks (mixed thumbsticks) so that I can play this game. I feel like I wasted $53 dollars on a game I can't play at all. I know about 30 people who play xbox shooters in my community and 25% of them use legacy controls. My friends want to play this game on live but can't because of the lack of alternative thumbstick contrlos and they won't buy the game unless it offers this scheme.

I would have to agree with these comments. The X-Box consoles are locking up during online play. There have been several cases where myself and several other players have had to shut off our X-Box and log back in. The online play can be frustrating because when you are trying to shoot someone they are flying around the screen which makes it very difficult. If you can fix these bugs it would make gameplay more enjoyable.

Thanks

Hello,

I have been playing Project Snowblind on the Xbox and have 2 issues regarding the controller setup which are really affecting by ability to play the game. One based on the pre-defined southpaw sontroller set-up and the other regarding controller glitches which occur when in cut-scenes or using machinery/vehicles

1. It seems that some very useful controller set-ups are missing from the list of pre-defined options. I tend to use southpaw (left thumbstick = look/ right thumstick = move), and was initailly very relieved it included in the list, until I found out that all of the buttons (espeicially pri and sec fir) had also been reversed. This is a strange move as southpaw usually only refers to the thumbsticks and not the whole controller layout. I have tried to use these reversed keys but am finding the expeirence very frustrating. My question here is; Is there any chance that new controller options can be added to next auto update? (if there is one planned), becuase without it I and probably many others will not be able to fully experience the game, and would certainly be at a big disadvantage when playing over Live.

2. Once ingame (using Southpaw) the control set-up seems to switch back to defualt when moving during the 'cut-scenes'. This is very disconcerting whenever it occurs the same thing is also true when using different vehicles ingame. jump into a turret and you need southpaw (even though the fire trigger is wrong). but jump into a jeep and all of a sudden you need to change the controller back to default as all of a sudden all control is moved to the right thumbstick. this feels wrong to the player as the controls change allot based on what vehicle you are using at the time. Again I ask the question, Are there any planned to resolve these issues in future auto updates

Thanks for your time

I am getting sick and tired of this. I can't even play the game because of this. The game I BOUGHT! I am not going to remove or disable my legally bought software just to play your game, that is just insulting to ask of a consumer. It's like buying a car then being told by your insurance company to remove the doors because they don't like them. Why as consumers must we always be pressured to remove or disable software game makers don't like?

Any solutions Eidos besides removing my LEGALLY bought software?

I have the xbox version and am having the same problem that a lot of people seem to be having. I have my xbox connected to my surround sound system with the advanced hd a/v pack with the optical connention and the sound that should be in the left front speaker is coming from the right rear speaker. Now, I love the game play, but this sound issue takes me out of the game entirely because I don't know at first where the sound is supposed to be coming from. I have also tried my old standerd left/right audio cables and then all the sound comes from the right channel. What happened with this game? It could have been totally awesome had they shipped a product that had gone throught QA a little bit longer.

I hope that there is a solution to this problem, otherwise this will be the only time I play through this game and then trade it in for something that works the way it is supposed to.

Now, whenever I load the game, it runs the opening cinamatic just fine, but the menu screen and the game itself is almost completely unviewable. It is as if almost half the brushes aren't being drawn and the colors are all wrong. System requirements are all met, and display drivers are up to date.

This is covered in other threads, but to save you time try the setup menu and disable Full Screen Effects.

I already disabled the full screen option, that was what was causing the game to keep crashing. The only other way I can discribe problem is as a shading or shadow problem maybe. That having been said, I've already tried disabling the shadows, but to no avail.

Try using older drivers or new beta drivers. The latest official drivers of Nvidia were released after the game went gold (meaning they couldn't test it).

PLEASE HELP!!!!! ANY SUGGESTIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

EDIT : After reading posts from people with identiacal problems, I checked to see if the service is running. It was and it was set to automatic.

Are you running WindowsBlinds or anything else like that?

You could help use diagnose the problem if you are certain you are not running any illegal emulation software etc..

I'm not using window blinds. This is a fresh install of XP. I don't use any image mounting software, like alchohol 120%, either.

I called the technical support line, but i gave up after being put on hold for 40 minutes.

Snowblind looks awsome, so I'm pretty annoyed that I can't play it.

OK, I think I found the problem : the file securom_v7_00.dat is supposed to be in your Application Data folder. Right, what do you do if that folder is missing?

EDIT : Wow, I'm sure dumb. I forgot that "Application Data is a hidden folder." I changed the options to show hidden folders. Upon doing this I realized that the file is missing. Any Ideas?

Ok to help us diagnose the problem could you right click on the exe and select "launch analysis". This will take you thru a quick diagnostic routine and at the end create a file in the root of your C drive. Zip this file up (very important you do this) and email it to me at discanalysis@eidos.co.uk i will get it analysed and get back to you with the cause of the problem. Dont forget to mention which product you running.

I have a 2.53GB processor

Dvd-rom
Ati Radeon 9250(PCI {not express} 256MB=Didn't think to ask if the motherboard had AGP or PCI slots :(
Bought PC DVD-Rom version of SnowBlind

First level of fight graphics are ok
Second level=walking around in base= graphics are fine
Third Level= I can hardly freakin see in the game. I stumble around in this grayish haze. No crash problems or anything else. just a freakin grayish haze. Messed with the setup and looks like there is small fraction less of a grayish haze. Did I miss something like Infrared gogles. Please help!

It is a known problem.
I'm having this problem too.
Seems like only old video cards like Radeon 8500, 9000, 9200SE(Mine), 9250 cause this grayish haze.
Crystal Dynamics(a company which developed the game) told nothing about an issue.
I personaly have tried everything to solve this with no luck.

A CRC error (Cyclic Redundency Check) is usually attributed to corrupted media. Basically, you probably have a bad disk. Try swapping it for another copy from the retail store and install of the new disk. It should work.

I've had similar issues with the game crashing during play for no apparent reason. I disabled fullscreen effects during setup which helped this problem has'nt crashed on me since but i have'nt finished playing the missions yet.

The other problem is i cannot run setup if the game has already been installed. I have to uninstall the game to be able to run the setup menu someone please fix this.

Also i've not found away to totally disable the music even in the game options. The music is really annoying & i'd rather just use the sound effects.

I use a ATI radeon 9800 pro with latest drivers.

Well, eidos feedback to my support request was:
#1) Uncheck "enable fullscreen effects" which I had already told them I had done.
#2) revert back to catalyst driver 5.1 or 5.2 (that would be great except I know that would mean "Republic Commando" would not work anymore I know from experience and that doesn't seem to be a good answer to something that seems to need a patch seeing many radeon users are having this trouble

#3) laptops are not supported by Snowblind because: "(laptops are not supported on the game box)... they are not considered gaming systems." Well, I disagree with this as for sometime many lines of laptops have been sold with gaming in mind as a main function. So they suggest I return the game as if anyone can return an opened game to 99% of retailers as is my case.

They made no reference to any work being done on a patch to fix this issue. I was interested to see the following post in a different forum thread that I'm quoting below which suggests there is work being done to address this with a patch but I can't be sure.
"Have you tried the demo? it has got a fix in it for the ATI cards which would be useful to know if it helps your stability.. if that works we know we on right foot for a fix for full game"

Thought I'd share. -N

SecuROM's support is taking care of my launch issues, they said that a unknown .dll file is interfering. I have run 3 test programs emailed to me from them and they seem to be able to help. 3 new test files, one of them a new game launcher was sent to me, and I got the game to launch properly, and it runs well, fullscreen and everything.
I expect to get the non-test files soon.

However there seems to be "mouselag" much like Deus Ex: IW, anyway to fix this?

Directly, one of the moderators told another person to send his analysis file in for evaluation. Since I couldn't even get the game to start up, not even the setup, I figured it had something to do with the security in the game.
note! demo didnt work for me either.

I am still not sure if the bug has to do with SecuROM or Crystal Dynamics, but SecuROM helped so...

I used the mail add. support@securom.com

kudos for making that launch analysis program CD, never had use for it in the LOK series, but it helped this time.

Oh and the mouse lag isn't so bad, as in DE: IW, because you can actually get used to it after 30 min (I use sensetivity 30-40 something). However it does feel a bit like...hmm.
Well like when you configuer you mouse under controlpanel, to not use enhanced accuracy (translate from danish), suppose its like I am missing the "mouse smoothing", some other games offer.

Who knows, maybe its part of the MP balance, so that snipers don't have it to easy :D

As a big fan of Deus Ex and DEIW, I'm enjoying the game immensely, but there have already been several crashes, most of them occurring during the objective of taking out the rail guns.
Surprisingly, these crashes are not occurring during visually challenging parts of the game, i.e. not a lot of light and shadow variations, and not during a firefight with explosions or movements by several soldiers and vehicles. Usually, it's when I'm slowly sneaking up on someone or quickly cycling through my list of weapons using the tab function.
My system has been loaded with fully up to date drivers and should be more than adequate. It's a P4C 3.4 w/2Gb of DDR400 RAM with 80gig, 250 gig and 400 gig hard drives and I'm using an ATi Radeon Pro 9800 all-in-wonder, a Saitek gaming keyboard and a Logitech MX-510 performance mouse. Virtually everything in the game is set at default levels, with the one exception of playing the game at 1024x768, and at a very reasonable (i.e. pretty darn slow) frame rate of 60.
Getting to be a little frustrating because you have to cover far more ground and confront more Republic soldiers as well as bots and turrets than in earlier rounds (and do it alone) before you reach the next save point.
I'll be starting all over again for the third time. Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated. In fact, I'll wait to hear from you before continuing.

Yeah, 60 seems fine actually. But I was wondering what a higher frame rate would look like. Unfortunately, there is nothing describing any fault in the game software. The only screen that comes up is that Microsoft windows screen that asks if you would like to report an error.
By the way, this is single player, first time playng the game.
I am about to try the level again and will be careful to record what happens, if I do get an error screen.

The problem is not solved because you lucked out and it didn't crash (once again) before the next save point. Keep holding your breath. I've found there to be no point to play the game until it's fixed. Sure I can play it for awhile but it will crash and likely before a save point.
As Smoker 6 pointed out in another thread: "Just so you know, my PC is a P4 3.2G with 1G of RAM and a Nvidia 6800 PCI Express, and it STILL randomly crashes. It's not my PC. It's the game."

Are you using the 71.89 official drivers?

Are you using the VIA Hyperion 4-in-1's 4.56?

What is your AGP Aperture setting in the BIOS?

Do you have Fast Writes on?

What AGP speed are you running at?

Did you uninstall your video drivers first then reboot and install new drivers?

Have you had problems with any other games?

For the people having problems with the game starting, you need to contact support@securerom.com

from what I have heard is that copy protection sometimes conflict with 3rd Party system DLLs and that causes these problems.

Single Player. Can't remember the exact title of the game chapter, but it is the part right after Frost has spoken to the general and keyed the self destruct sequence. The next section begins with one of Frost's colleagues saying 'we left some bad guys for you.' Frost is trying to escape a room and cross the courtyard full of Republic soldiers. Just past the courtyard, the crash occured with the following references.

"A fatal error has occurred while playing Snowblind. Please refer to the Read Me for information that might help you solve this problem, or contact Eidos customer support."
It went on to say the following:

"Exception at: 23/04/2005 at 17:29:07

Whatever help you can provide on this will be appreciated because I found this segment especially challengng and was just about to get through it when this crash occurred.

Update. Two saves past the last crash. Intense, sweaty under arms firefights. I'm starting to wonder about all of the complaints against this game. Personally, I'm having a blast...uh, so to speak.

Okay, this is becoming a challenge now, defeating the Republic AND getting as far as possible before the next crash. Four more save points to "Rescue" and then a crash right after the fourth new save. Those I don't mind so much.

Update: the following day. No crashes at all today, very enjoyable playing tme.

Eidos sent me this and it fixed my problem, still crashes though.

Thank you for your message. Follow the links below to download an updated
version of the Project: Snowblind executable files. They were released by
SecuRom to fix many problems people are having, and they may fix the problem you
are seeing. The files you are downloading will be in zipped or compressed
format. You will need to unzip/decompress them before you can copy them into the
Project: Snowblind folder. Download all 3 files to your Windows Desktop. Once
they have been downloaded, double click on each zipped folder and click on
“extract all files” located in the left hand column. Click on Next, then click
Browse and double click on “Desktop”. Click OK, then click on Next. The file
should be extracted to your desktop and placed in a Snowblind folder. Make sure
the “Show Extracted Files” box is not checked, then click on Finish. Repeat for
all 3 downloaded files. Close any windows you have open, then look on the
desktop for the Snowblind folders. Open it and right-click on the Snowblind.exe
file, left-click on Copy. Then open My Computer> C: Drive> Program Files> and
open the Project: Snowblind folder. Click on Edit and click on Paste. Repeat for
the Snowblind.sp and Snowblind.mp files. You should see a window appear saying
the folder already contains a file with that name, and asks if you wish to
replace the existing file. Click YES to proceed, then start the game using the
Windows Start menu. The game should now work.

I just installed my game last night, and as I was about to play, I found myself "frozen". I was unable to move around, although I could fire my weapon, using my mouse. Any suggestions?

Just so you know:
I have a Dell, with a 3.2G Hyperthreading Pentium 4
Nvidia Geforce 5200 Graphics card (latest Drivers, I checked)
2G of ram
DirectX 9c

I have a P4 3.4 g with 1 g of ram and suffer from those desktop crashes with the soud loop. But I have played the game in multiplayer for some time none the less. One problem I have found is that certain games I cant join. I have noticed that when the player F22raptorpilot is in a game, I cant join it. It comes up red. I have him as a friend, and even from the Friends menu the game wont let me join the match. Only when he has left the game am I able to join. What could be the reason for this?

Yes I beleive that is the main problem with SnowBlind. Stupid Securom is really screwing up everything and I think that is what was cause everyone's problem. I found afix to get it started on another site inwhich I will not post here that fix the locking up of my computer. Ben playing the game at 1024x768 and I have not had a crash yet. I had a simular problem with Legos Starwars.

System specs
Athlon xp 2500+(Barton)
1gig pc3200 Generic
2 40g Maxtor DX740
Turtle Beach santa Cruz sound card
Asrock K7S8XE
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128meg

As you can see some of my parts are cheap but they run everything form HL2 to Doom3 with no problems and I have all the latest drivers install includeing the CAT drivers as well. So I believe that the Securom anti copying determent is what really causing all the problems that yall are having. I mean they would have not given Jmt that link to fix a screw up that they did.

Oh and just to let you know I paid 19.95 US for the game at the local Walmart I think when it first came out it was a little more but I am not sure.

Also it is a really pretty game too. :D

To be short, my problem is this. http://img330.imageshack.us/img330/6701/weirdish5zl.jpg

All text in the game is corrupted, and completely unreadable. Any idea why this is happening? I have an old radeon 9200, with second newest Catalyst.

I try to log in and I get this message:
Login failed. Could not connect to online service. Servers may be down. Please try again later.See www.projectsnowblind for scheduled maintenance.
This happens everytime I've tried to get on this week and it used to work fine before.

I just got the game for 4.85$ (new and unopened) today, and I really think it's a cool game..
But I have a small problem that is:

My system looks like this:

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)
Language: English (Regional Setting: Danish)
System Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM
DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT (SLi Dual)
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 7800 GT
Display Memory: 256.0 MB
Driver Name: nv4_disp.dll
Driver Version: 6.14.0010.7801 (English)

My problem is, when I play the game, it runs fine... But after 10-20 mins of playing it exits without any error...
Is this a driver problem or a Dual core problem?

Bring up with processes sub menu with CTRL ALT DEL, right click Snowblind.exe then disable CPU 1. If that doesnt work disable Full Screen Effects through the Setup menu.
