how do i stop his second incarnation?

for that matter, why does he try to stop me if he says hes resigned to his fate?

The unspoke took him over and to give the game more game play and to fullfill his destiny to redeem Nosgoth by killing all of the old Pillar members, Mortanious is the Guardian of Death. Now to beat the second incarnation, what I do is equip Iron Sword/Mace/Flaming Sword use Energy Bank to give me a ass load of energy, switch my current weapon to the Soul Reaver and 0wn him.

how do we know that he is the unkown? its never said..

Have you played Defiance? That answers who the "Unspoken" are. Otherwise Mortainious (probably when Raizel, Moebious and Malek were busy in the Sarafan Keep) got posssed by the weakening binding of pillars and took him as a suitable host, along with Turel (Hash'ak'gik) in Avernus Cathedral's sub-terranean basement. When Turel and Mortainous's bodies were destroyed they took the restored Janos Audron as a better host. Also I believe ther was FAQ that answered this to. not sure.
