Hmmm.........those do look fairly convincing, but anyone with some Photoshop expertise could have thrown those together. I blew up the pics from the above link. I remain skeptical but these could in fact be the first screeshots from the game. Judge for yourself

Someone on the Lara Croft Online forum posted the same "magazine article scan". They suggested it may be a PSP handheld version of Tomb Raider that's being developed (you can see a picture of a PSP right above the pics).

The above pics certainly are NOT from Tomb Raider 7. However, the PSP idea being touted IS much more likely. Here is an interesting passage from last year's Annual Report from Eidos.
"Following the internal transfer of the Tomb Raider franchise from Core Design to Crystal Dynamics, Core Design has been refocused and restructured. A number of the new concept idea and pre-production works, for both platform and PlayStation Portable (PSP) application, are being developed in this studio."
Would be nice, wouldn't it. ;)

But one crazy detail is the fact Lara Croft ingame is equal to TR-AOD, while the face on the left corner is from previous TR games. I think something isn't right, there. But we will soon know for sure, anyway. :)

More inclined to agree with the majority after some thought. The pics were posted on our forum yesterday, and have since been scrutinized by our members, who have also conclusively labeled the screens as an elaborate hoax. One member posted this pic:

... and notes the same model has been layered over the above shots.
Fun while it lasted I guess.

Well I don't know... wasn't there supposed to be dinosaurs in TR7? I think there was. :D Looks like TR7 to me.... :D The PSP at the top is probably an advertisement.
But Lara's face picture on the bottom left corner looks like TR2... If it was a real game, why would the body have the advanced AOD model and the face have an older Lara's design...?
Well, if it was TR7 indeed, the only thing I like about is is infact AOD's ingame Lara, which I hope they don't change a lot. :)

Ahhh, but they have! :D can't you see the possibilities? Lara has to touch each panel, and each is a portal to its own world with its own challenges... If she doesn't unlock every secret awaiting, she will be forever trapped in that neon existence...

kiss-bite's pictures are looking more real... And really cool.
The img-link is (still?) dead.
Not really. The body looks again like taken from a TR3 picture and the face from AOD. Not to mention it shows Lara should be holding an arpoon, while she is really holding twin pistols. Courtesy of Soma for noticing these details. :)

Are this pics the pictures really from tr7? When this pics are i will not buy tr7. This looks like really big bull****. It seems like lara has a special way to swimm and not like in the other games where she can go everywhere.
Mark_

Fatality. They are fake pictures. They have nothing to do with TR7.
Also, on one of the pictures, the swimming suit's shorts are blue, while in the other, they are brown. And the swimming guys are in the exact same pose, from one picture to the other, only they are in the back, farer away, in one. In the picture on this page, Lara's legs look wierd, as if one of the legs in a duplicate picture of the other. All this and more was noticed by Soma, not myself, but I just thought I would add here.

My argument is: What would be the point of Eidos addressing EVERY dubious pic or rumours circulating the web? Soon enough Eidos will officially announce the game, and soon enough Eidos will debut media.
The same thing happened with AOD and TRC. Fake pics started circulating the web prior to both games being announced. I'm only disappointed that who-ever knocked these up didn't put a little bit more imagination into them, bar pulling apart pics from AOD and thinking this'd fool die hard Tomb Raider fans.
Most of you folk know we'll report on pretty much anything. But even we draw the line with these pics. Some things are just not worth commenting on.

This is what I think. Personally. Folk are getting frustrated. Four months till this game is supposed to debut and we don’t even know what it’s called. The pics, IMO, are a product of that frustration. I would imagine folk are getting a little annoyed with Eidos right now. I’d imagine folk are lobbying for some kind of reaction just so Eidos can confirm there actually IS A TOMB RAIDER 7 coming soon. I’ve said before that I thought silence was the best course of action for Eidos, until they are confident in their product and – of course – have something worthwhile to showcase.
Personally, I don’t think the game will debut on time. Personally, I think it was questionable of Eidos to stamp a time-frame on its debut. How can you pull a franchise from one studio, plant it in another and then accurately specify when that game will debut. Eidos are publishers. While I’m sure they discussed a time-frame with Crystal Dynamics on when the game is likely to be ready, they have their shareholders to think about. Crystal Dynamics – in the space of 12 months – have to familiarize themselves with a franchise created and nurtured by another studio, and they sure as hell won’t be getting any assistance from the former caretaker.
So I think Q4 2005 is unlikely. I also think that Crystal Dynamics should be allowed all the time they need without pressure from Eidos, as WAS NOT the case with Core Design. When the product is good and warrants showcasing, then we’ll see the future of the franchise.

I forgot to add this SPECULATION on my part.
Two reason's why Eidos remains quiet.
1. The product isn't ready to be showcased, which is the most likely.
2. Confidence in Eidos continues to wan, as does their share price. The lower their market capital, the more attractive a proposition there are.
Again, just speculation on my part.

Too complicated? I’ll simplify my statement futher. I won’t be publishing these recent pics and suggesting they represent actual shots from Tomb Raider 7 because I don't believe they do. I've noted my theory above. Perhaps you'd like to comment on that. :)

Yes, we are getting frustrated, and yes, I also feel that these pictures are borne out of a desire to manifest the next, fresher appearance of the TR series. This may sound mean or nagging, but there are only so many "official" AOD pics out there to play around with. People get tired of chopping & pasting the same bits and duking them up in Photoshop; (except apparently the good folk who are still making people question whether or not those shots are from "TR7". LOL)
...Personally, I don’t think the game will debut on time. Those are excellent points. I didn't realize that the proposed date was closing in this fast! I would have a bit more comfort about the new game's release if there was a way to compare the situation with AOD to this. I don't know how much time lapsed between the release of official info about AOD, and the release of AOD itself; but even if I had that information, it would in no way help me to speculate about what's taking place now. Everything is being handled by a new company, designers, etc.
Now, considering that in a year's time, CD will have to recreate Lara with (goodness knows what engine they will use)... it casts the release date in (even more of) a dubious light.
I'm saying all that to say, having heard nothing from CD, (AND still having the sour remembrance of the previous delays with the company that created Lara), I have little faith in this "4 months 'til..."
I would SO love to have to eat my words.

One of the first places people curious about TR will go will be here to the Eidos site.
A quick "Fake" from them would solve a lot of problems. Its not like asking for money. ;)
Sure there are fakes done every day - but this particular series of shots is generating enough fuss to warrant a response IMO.
Especially as they could cause adverse early word of mouth. The last thing Eidos needs.
I can see other reasons why the pix are fake - the type-setting around the actual images has been very badly put together and doctored to look like a 'genuine' magazine.

Didn't Core Design have more than enough time to work on AOD? When was Chronicles released?
Also, if the game is coming out in June, that's what makes me think they will carry on with the AOD storyline.... It would be too hard to come up with something totally new.

I think you have a good point here. it would be an impossible deadline to come up with a totally new game in such a short time.
That's also why I hope they will keep lara's AOD looks, cause that is just what she looks like now and most people know that face by now.

Judging by the unfinished state of the released product - no they didn't.
There is no set length of time as to how long it should take.

Considering they built up a brand-new engine, no they didn't. AOD is not a bad game at all. It's graphics are very impressive on a ultimate PC with the ultimate graphic card. And it could have be better if they'd have enough time to work on the game. :(
