Comics and novels aren't the only pieces of source material that can be adapted into films, you know. Video games are all the rage right now, making billions of dollars each year, and the film industry, of course, wants to cut in and get a piece of the action. Visually, video games are more cinematic than they've ever been, with characters and storylines that are sometimes more compelling than anything Hollywood is able to come up with on its own. The success of Super Mario Bros. was followed by Double Dragon and Mortal Kombat, but the international appeal of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider really got the phone ringing and contracts signed.
