No big deal actually  :D It's just the level I'm playing now. I've stopped before the creatures (after the lift) - by the way, the puzzles have been cool so far - It took me ages to find the way out the road outside - darn! it was so simple!! LOL
I just finished that level for the second time now. I really like that one. :)

I have finished it. The turrets are a pain in the neck, but that was fun :D
I haven't even gotten there, yet...:o

Thats the problem. Everything is so simple its hard.. :( (if that makes any sense)
Heck, I'm still trying to get used to the controls--having neglected to read the manual and find out what they are...:o :D
mrdefender
09-05-2002, 06:50 AM
I almost always read the manual. It makes it that much easier to understand & play the game.
What I don't read is EULAs (End User License Agreements or "copyrights"). You've read one, you've read them all.
"You cant make a copy and sell the copy"
"You cant make a copy unless its for backup purposes"
I forget the rest but its the basic "Dont run with scisors" story. Everything you know you shouldnt do but it doesnt stop ppl from doing it.
Thats what Warez is for :b (not that I use it.. I can't stand all those popups!!)
Well, half the time, even when I have read the manual, I still get hung up on the controls, so I might just as well be completely in the dark when I start a new game.
Kidding.;)
And I don't bother with any of that "Thou Shalt Not" copyright stuff either.:D
mrdefender

thats why they have customizable controls :)
I'd still have to get used to them after I customized them. I'm kinda dopey with new games no matter what I do...http://www.click-smilie.de/sammlung/aktion/aktion061.gif
invader

I understand you. Everytime I start a game it takes me some time to get used to the controls. For customizing you first need to get familiarized to the particular moves of the game anyway.
When I tried the demo I had some difficulty. As far as I see (which is not too distant :D ) there should be a tutorial for PE.
Heehee. Yeah, I just don't think I'm used to that whole working with 4 different characters at once thing, yet. I'm getting there, though...sloooowly...:o :D
mrdefender
09-08-2002, 12:30 PM
really? wow.
WSAD, SPACE, X, LeftClick, RightClick, SHIFT, Q, E
Forward. Backward, Strafe Left, Strafe Right, Jump, Crouch, Shoot, Alt Shoot, Switch Previous Weap, Switch Next Weap, Use
I Keep ALT, CTRL, F6/F9 for...
BonusFeature1, BonusFeature2, Quick Save, Quick Load.
Those are basics to most fps games nowadays.
For games that have the bind command (like: bind 1 kill) I use the rest of the F# keys for cheats.
like bind F1 GOD and stuff.
You never know when you're going to run into 5 bosses you know.. :D
I got a little too used to playing Legacy of Kain games and, as much as I love them, the controls are pretty much simplistic 2-button hack and slash moves. I hate to say that, because it makes the gameplay sound really terrible, and it's not. I have nothing against a simple fighting system (coz I'm absolutely addicted to the storyline anyway!), but it takes a bit of time to get out of that mentality...
I'm kinda slow, what can I say? :D
mrdefender
09-08-2002, 01:52 PM
2 buttons? geez. goes back to the NES system :)
I think I make it sound a bit worse than it is. They're not bad. They have a somewhat simple fighting system (particularly in the earlier games), but then you've also got to fiddle with spells and things, and it does use a few more buttons here and there.;) The original Blood Omen is a pretty old game, by game standards, though. It came out in '96, when 2D graphics and simple attacks were still pretty impressive.

That's the way it goes :) Before playing the demo I had been playing a lot of Tomb Raider. Tho I had played Hidden & Dangerous, in which you have to control a team of 4, it is quite diferent from PE. I was quite slow with the moves, but practice makes perfect. I do not intend to show off but I even was capable to beat (great) Runtime in the fastest time challenge for the demo.
Even now I'm going slowly thru the levels, partly for lack of time, partly for not being that smart (I had to use the walkthru 2 times)

the thing interface is more user friendly.
You dont switch characters. Thats what I found confusing in the construction zone. You had to have a specific character do a specifc thing during the time another specific character does another specific thing while another specific character stays at a specific spot, etc...

I see. But I guess that's part of the challenge. Construction Zone is a very creative level, I enjoyed a lot - tho it gave me some headache LOL

i think everyone got a headache from that one.
I enjoyed the last level. It was balanced in every catagory.
Not to heavy on monsters in areas (not 40 bad guys comming at you at once)
Not to heavy on puzzles
Not to heavy on specific character roles (ala construction zone)
Well, I haven't got a headache from it...yet...;)
Sounds like a royal pain in the backside, though!

i have a headache about it right now.
well... actually.. ive been playing earth and beyond for about 10 hours straight. it so addictive.
im just glad u need to pay for the service (its seriously making me point in the "no" direction of buying it.. but i want it !! :( )
I'm gonna look at price (US) and convert it to (CAN) which is simple.. enough..
US / 2 = Y......... Y+US = CAN
So 20$ US is about 30$ CAN (cause 20/2 = 10, 20+10 = 30 :) )
but if it costs 30$ US /month.. thats 45$ canadian per month..
Thats like getting another game!!!!!!!!!!!
Plus Its only credit card accessible.... So I'd need to convert my bank card into visa (only option it allows).. And I'm 19 :( Getting used to cheques.. dunno about a credit card.
ARGH! I <something> for the days I was younger...

Yep, I used to watch Quantum Leap quite a bit. Some of those scenarios seemed a little creepy, too.;)
Edit: And, in my further defense regarding how long it's taking me to get used to the PE controls, I'm also in the middle of working my way through another game that I've had almost since I bought my PS2, and it's driving me NUTZ!! :p :D

mrdefender
09-24-2002, 07:58 AM
Basicly, anything that can be "used", "activated" or "clicked on" does a good thing.
So when u c something that can be used, use it and most of the time something good happens (most of the time is a door that opens to a new area in the puzzle)
Yeah, click on everything that can be. You should get it eventually.
The game I was referring to being stuck in is actually Vagrant Story. That's the "alternate" gaming venture I mentioned that has kept me from getting back to PE and wrapping my head around the controls on that one.
Sorry for the confusion...:o :(
Thanks for the PE tips, though.:D

I got it the first time. I took a wrong turn :) (well. it was the right turn but was wrong, according to control)
My sister's boyfriend took over an hour to figgure it out..
That's what I mean. Going "right" got me all screwed up. I was in the correct place the first time I started playing the game because I was concentrating more on getting the controls down than I was on listening to directions from Control.

ah. I'm a quick learner.
If its any consolation.. I found the elevator on my first try but didnt know how to open it.. :)
(all u had to do is walk, which aint that hard but what button do u push to activate something?? most games have a key bind for "use" but in PE it was target and click..)
Well, I'm a slow learner--sometimes!:D
And that's not much consolation at all.;) :D I went to the room where the elevator was the very first time I played it, it just didn't look like an elevator, so I thought I was in the wrong place.:o
