I'm a new poster to this forum, but I spend most of the time reading. In the old forum there was a thread devoted to the cool things in Startopia. I'm starting it again, sorry if you're bored of this.

I know a few:

-'Danger Will Robinson' written backwards in the Security Control room.

-'Eureka' displayed on the workstation when a new technology is researched.

-When speaking to aliens, their head follows the mouse.

-Rare statues, Uplanter, Robot Heaven, anymore??

Post any other cool things you've noticed.

Hey Scuzzy I'm new to Startopia and to be honest I haven't noticed some of those nice touches in the game just yet, I'll be on the look out for more though.

One thing I like is how all the different aliens have completly different ways of swimming. It cracks me up to watch some of them!!:D

Oh, have you seen a salthog struggle to see over the counter at the rough bar (and probably other places) they do chinups!!

Its these little "cool" touches that makes Statopia so good. So much attention has been payed to every last detail.

Watching a plant grow. Seriously. Watch a Karma planting something, and soon near its feet a tiny sprout will appear. And then it gets bigger, and bigger, and bigger, never actually changing shape! At least, I don't think they change shape. This simple process has given me a surprising amount of amusement, and that probably says something odd about my personality. :)

- Turrukens arguing with each other

- Seti@home displayed on the Workstations

Two words. Lavatron Noises.

Yep, those quirk little aliens make the most comical grunts and moans when they're on the throne. Gotta give mucky foot credit for such amazing detail, eh?

How do you find out what their love score is?

Collecting live bombs and beaming them onto the bio-deck to make big round craters with pointy rims.

The way crims stop and wait for the fuzzer you beamed down to come and get them. (so nice of them not to run)

Beaming sprouts into plant bio-pots and watching them zoom to full size in seconds.

Frostarian snappers.

Beaming up the "Robot Heaven" sculpture and finding a scuzzer orgy underneath.

Watching incompatible aliens talk to each other.

Vermin.

The look on a gem slug's face after it talks to vermin.

Watching security columns shoot vermin.

Watching fuzzers and scuzzers recharge.

Watching she-sirens in the disco.

The turakken victory dance after each new discovery.

Watching targ swim.

Watching sick peeps being treated in the z-ray scanner.

Open the hire/fire menu.

Look for peeps with a heart in the far right-hand column. That means they need some good lovin'.

When it comes to that, I really wished they had tiny bar graphs in the hire fire panel, that way I wouldn't have to click on each one and wait for them to shake their heads.

Waiting for lots of people to come into your station, then re-packing the port. Mwuahahahahaha.

Watching the gors play pong.

Seeing hundreds of skeletons all over my station.

Drop a bomb on the disco and have to pay loads of Cash.

Dropping Bombs on Memaus

Dropping Bombs on Spies

Dropping Boms on expensive buildings

Getting Lots of Memaus

Watching the Enrgy Thingy in the Collector Move- shiny

Attacking Enemies

And a funny thing I noticed that the Dinomat says something in English but I can quite make it out. it says something like Vend... and then I cant make it out.

"Vendmatic" (which is why it's called "vendor" in all the mission files). And it says "Cantina" around the top.

Also watching plants shrink when you change the biodeck.

Scuzzy

Another cool thing is if you lower the camera and go around all of the rooms listening to the sounds each room makes. The Sick bay is quite funny, when a critical patient enters the heart beat in the background increases.

The blue screen of death on the research Workstations... every 10 seconds. They have an eye for accuracy.

Space Vermin jumping through the floor after a conversation with a Gor or a Memau.

Baby Memau! If you don't kill Skrashers, but let them eat their fill, a litter of tiny Memau are born and the Skrasher dies (or vanishes or something). The Memau grow quickly though.

Using bombs to attack another Administrator breeching you.

The floating piano-man in the Cocktail bar.

Openning the entire Bio-Deck and going for a continuous cruise.

Oh so clever. I love it all. My favorite has to be the randomness of the viewing gallery though.

Such brilliant game design... I swear, if I ever find one of their coders I'll jump them and kiss them! *Looks into the crowd*

How about the fact you can drop stuff into the Star Dock or when you look outside you can see all the big planets.

Watching the Z-Ray Scanner and seeing all the funky insides of peeps.

And the floating stones of Zedem (http://www.geocities.com/hand_e_food)...

My favourite is VAL's description of the lockdown brig:

"Uses superliminal therapy and non-invasive brain restructuring to rehabilitate the occupant."

In other words, shouting at them and hitting them about the head.

I remember one of the points on the BSOD said something, I just can't remember what. Oh and the description of the Image Projector: THIS IS YOUR GOD

I also like when all the temple things, wadya call em, come up from halfway down a hill. Also, I put them underwater and do an Atlantis impression.

1) Go to the bio-deck and select the Tiny/Land tool.

2) Make a spire in the dead centre of the first segment of the bio-deck (use the patterns on the doors and walls to judge the centre).

3) When the temple is built, a large circle of land will rise around it. It may take a while because (I think) a little bit changes each time a new stone rises.

4) Watch the peeps run horizontally up the sides of the spire.

Finding a cool camera angle and just watching the game from a certain obscure viewpoint.
