This thread was fun so I decided to resurrect the idea. http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38814 Look up a word in the dictionary, and then share the revelations. It would be more fun if they were words that we would actually have a chance to use someday. (Even if it's only here.)

Excoriate: remove skin from; attack bitterly. (flay)

and the vegetarian version... ;)

i started looking though a medical dictionary we've got, boy this book is filled with strange things!

helminthemesis- the vomiting of worms
hemocryoscopy- the ascertaining of the freezing of blood

Well at least its not as bad as somthing like necrosis (One of the things that happens to you when you get radiation posioning it liquefies you organs and kills cells)

And here's some funny sounding words from the old biology textbook

mycorrhizae - (my-ko-ry-zeh-ee) fungi living symbiotically with plant roots, also ridiculously difficult to pronounce

spirogyra - (spy-ro-jy-ruh) a boring type of algae with an inappropriately cool sounding name

retrovirus - (ret-roe-vy-rus) a brightly colored virus from the '70's... wait, no... an RNA virus that reverse writes itself into a host's DNA strand

amoebae (a-me-be) plural of amoeba

amoebius - (a-mo-be-us) a man in need of defenestration
