Game crashes when I press load.

I've got the GOTY edition and am running it on XP. It's been playing fine for the few days I've been playing it after reinstalling it, but just now whenever I click Load in the main menu it crashes with a general protection fault message with tonnes of script in the message box (presumably the script that was running at the time).

I can't play at all. Anyone had this problem? Anyone know how to sort it?
