well i was offered the Choice of either General or Local anasthetic
General = Totally knocks you out, thats the one where you can't even remember Being put out or waking up as i understand it this one makes you pretty much unconcious
Local = Just a couple or injections to Numb the area, you are awake during the procedure

I've been under general, my brother has been under Both general and local, from what i heard he enjoyed General more, as they told him to count to 10 and he was out by 3 =D

I've had Local, but just for dentist work. Not altogether nice feeling/hearing your tooth being pulled out with a small *crack* noise
Doesn't help that because it's your mouth you have to be careful not to drool on yourself for a few hours after :p

I usually have one of those when I go to the dentist to do something potentially painful.

Yeah, and it's nasty smelling blood drool that stains your clothes. Wait, that's just when teeth are pulled. I've had nine pulled including wisdom teeth and stayed awake for all of 'em. I'd rather take twenty shots in the mouth and hear all the nasty noises than starve for a day and risk never waking up.

When I had my ears pinned back I had general and although I'm thankful I wasn't awake when they cut me open etc, I think that in some respectys it copuld have been better to have local, as when I had it, I felt cold stuff travelling up my arm and counted to god knows what then I remember looking up feeling groggy and yucky with a killer throat, due to the fact they have to stick a tube down your throat top make sure you can breath.

No, that's not normal. That's sadistic. My mom's childhood dentist didn't believe in Novocain. Grandma had a root canal done without it. She calls him Dr. Torture.
On an unrelated note, my sister used to have natural fangs... until our stupid orthodotist took a file to them. No Novocain, no asking permission, he just filed them off.

I once had to have novacane injected directly into the root canal because the tooth was infected. (Not pleasant.)
My latest dentist visit he refused to restore the length of my "fang" after reconstruction. I didn't yell at him too much, the tooth next to it had snapped off. Two more pending root canals. *sigh* What bugs me is that he burned away some of my gum tissue. (Had to be done, but stunk.)

Ooooh! Ouch! I thought I had it bad having all those teeth ripped out, but you've got it worse. Eecch.
It's funny how different dentists can be. I had one wisdom tooth pulled early, and the dentist only had to give me one shot, which I didn't even feel 'cause he used the spray stuff first. The dentist who pulled the other ones gave me at least eight shots on one tooth, and I still felt him pull it!
Has anyone else noticed how dentist needles, with their metal cylinders and long, skinny needles, resemble instruments of torture? Come to think of it, pretty much all of their tools do.

i think dentists must be a little sadistic their job is to inflict lots of pain and release loads of blood. using the most evil tools!

local... i had a collapsed lung from a stab wound and it felt so weird to have that instrument they used to cut me open rubbing against my bones.. that was pretty disgusting now that i think about it.
general.. in my youth i was knocked out by a dentist as they did something to teeth - probably a cavitiy or something - but i was really young. i remember the gas smelling like strawberries. mmmmmm.. strawberry.
