Help! Stuck in level 9 COTW! (Spoilers!)

Hi everyone! :)

I am stuck again in COTW. I am in level 9.

Upon entering this area I have retrieved the medpak, climbed the two poles, pulled the lever, saw the cutscene of the opening with the ladder opening, and went up on the climbable grating.

Right now Lara is on the climbable grating on the side that is facing the closed room. I am trying to get Lara to backflip and land on the ledge/roof of the closed room behind her in order to get to that ladder on the roof.

My problem is am having a lot of trouble landing on the ledge after backflipping. The ledge is a little bit off to the right from where Lara is hanging on the grating and she always dies from missing the ledge. I have tried to turn Lara a bit in mid air to land on the ledge, but she still misses the ledge. :( (There are only two areas on the climbable grating that Lara can climb on and they are both not exactly even with the ledge.)

Can anyone advise me on how I can get Lara to back-flip and land on this ledge off to the right behind her successfully?

You're on the right track with what you wanna do. But as regards the detailed move, am not sure anymore. Can't she shimmy a bit? Even so, can't she make a midair correction to land on the ledge (make sure the correct arrow key is pressed, forgot which). It's just a tiny bit of correction, nothing so drastically sharp. I think. Hope someone can detail the precise maneuver as i honestly forgot already :(

Well, you must backflip and turn in mid air, that's for sure. Make sure you don't press Ctrl when doing the mid air turn. Just keep trying. The proper altitude is crucial too. You can't see the ledge behind you whilst hanging on the grate, but you need to be on its level in order to land on it. :)

I made it to the ledge. :)

I had Lara climb down to one level below from where I was previously having her jump on the grating and shimmy to the right as far as she could go (which was two moves). Then I did a backward flip with a twist and Lara landed on the ledge! Just barely on the way left side of it! Whew! :)

You go Rose! i really admire your perseverance :) That's the only way to play custom levels...to see it to the end and never give up.

Hi everyone! :)

Lara is at the mound that is surrounded by burners with the four levers. There is a block on one side that was raised when Lara used the lever that she just used inside the domed area. On this same side is a ledge directly across from the block.

I am having a lot of trouble getting Lara to jump over the burners to get to the block. She fries every time! :(
I am trying to get Lara to jump from the left side to the ledge across from the block - then hopefully to the block. I cannot get by the burners. Am I using the correct move here? Or, is Lara supposed to jump directly to the block somehow? What am I doing wrong here?

How do I get Lara to jump to the block successfully to enable her to get to the four levers on the mound?

I didn't go directly to the raised block (looked so far). I had to go to the left ledge first then long jump grab the raised block (which originally without the block was a burner).

Now to go the left ledge...hmmm, either try a running jump (don't step on the first burner square) and angle left a bit to land directly. OR running jump to a mound/slope on the right then backflip with turn to the opposite (left) ledge (forgot if she is supposed to land or grab. Try both).

One more move and you're really home!

Hi Rose :)

I don't think you can jump directly to the block. Lara can't grab it because there is a slope on this side, I think.

Just do a running jump with a mid-air correction to the left.
But you have to start running before Lara steps on the last stair (so you can press the jump button before she steps on the burner)

I am still trying to make this jump towards the left ledge and not making it! :(

As Lord Croft suggested, I am starting the run before the last stair. I can make the jump, but when I try to turn her towards the left ledge inflight I come up short! What am I doing wrong here?

Hi again. I don't know what you're doing wrong cause that's the way that worked for me.

Here are some of the tips that you might find useful:

- you have to jump right before Lara steps on the burner (to get the length of the jump)

- make sure you are facing in a direction which is almost to the ledge (so you make only a small mid-air correction)

- I've heard that Lara turns better if you don't have the jump button pressed down (I know it is so for the action button)


I had the good fortune that TR3 was the first TR game I played (right after trying a bit of TR1) and people say it's the hardest so I do these little things automaticy.

You should do fine after some 50 takes or so. ;) :D

P.S. I have also recently finished COTW for the second time and I think I must have set a time and savegame record.

@Rose, congratulations, I am happy for you, I am sorry it was so hard, I hope to be more calibrated for next levels (but allow me just FEW -really FEW!!- hard moments sometimes LOL)

@Drew, yes it is my Technorganic Breath (the "breath" is just because that reminds me of the organic weapon from "half life" and this my new weapon fires yellow thingies LOL) a friend of mine did it for fun and when she told me I used for my signature...

@Lord Croft.. second time you play it? LOL.. well, I think yours is the record :) Once I tried to do it in the less time I could (yes, knowing what to do is really an easier game, like you showed, there is no need to "look around"), but even if I tried, I couldn't keep myself to have a look around the same, just for "looking around" LOL. I know I couldn't tell this, but I loved the architecture, and I love it more now in the new version... :) So, I never finished lower than 2 hours just for I was losing my time having look around... :)

But, if you want to know, the COTW can be done into your time but without saving (or saving no more than 5 times just for really hard passages) and without any medikit used..) if you search, there is ALWAY a way to do things without losing health... I did build it in that way just for "really expert" players... I mean, the second time they play it :)

Well, I am not suggesting to play it again, LOL, I already think yours IS surely the best time until now and one of the best reported performances of ever into my COTW :)

I'm sooooo happy and proud *pats myself on the back* :D

I played each level twice - once to find the shortest route then I deleted the savegame and played it again with max speed (jumping and running whenever I could) so I picked up only the items that were on my way (no secrets). I saved only after difficult situations (many seamed difficult to me) and if I died I had a long way to get back in the same place (so if I would have saved only 5 times it would take ages to finish it) and I played 7 hours top. :cool:

I tried to do it without using any health packs but I couldn't do it. Some levels were just to hard on Laras health.

I did however find out some new ways to do certain things (I jumped directly to the floating platform with a lever and lost less health cause I didn't shimmy trough the hot air...) :D

Now I'm thinking about downloading TEP and see the beginnig of TR-A. Just to get me trought till Psiko issues the 3rd part and that should keep me busy till November (you all know what happens then ;))
