maybe a stupid question?

I rememeber having played fan missions in thief a long time ago. I'd love to play some more, being that I just finished thief deadly shadows, and I want more thief. Thing is, I don't remember how to play the fan missions.
Can someone help me, and tell me where I can get some fan missions, and how to play them?

It's very easy! You need to download a program called Darkloader, get some missions and you're all set. You can read more details in the TTLG FM Forum FAQ (http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48202) thread. It has download links for everything you need and hopefully will answer all the questions about getting started that come up. If not, post back here and we'll be glad to help. :)

One more question, do I need the original thief installed to play an FM, or is thief deadly shadows compatible?

You'll need to install the thief game the FM was designed for, Thief 3 will not play it :(
