I have completed the game once and by the end, some of the civillians (non-combatants) would scream for the guard as soon as they saw me. Now I admit one or two of them might have seen me blackjack the occasional guard or throw the random unconscious body off a pier, but what gives? Is this just a natural progression of the game or is this a result of them say...seing me get chased through town by the guard?

In that case, on my second time through, I will be more careful because that was a bit annoying when dodging hammers, pagans, assassins, guards, and then some psycho street chick screams because she happens to walk past me.

Same thing happened to me first time through the game.

I quickly learned my lesson, started over, and now a REAL thief doesn't have to worry about those things, because a REAL thief doesn't let him/herself get caught in the first place!

Well why don't you give me some tips on how you do it then? If you see a ped walking down the street draped in head-to-toe jewelry, do you backstab them in the back alley since dead men tell no tales?

That is why, after a while, I began putting an arrow in teh stupid peasants.

One: because they never drop their loot when trying to mug them.

Two: they started flipping out whenever I got into it with an enforcer.

Three: I was running short on cash and needed some quick loot.

I just made sure that no one will be witness to the mugging and the subsequent dumping of the unconsious body. Sometimes it meant tailing them until they're in that dark area, where there is no one else around. I also made sure that bodies are dumped where the AIs wouldn't accidentally wander into (ex. the bushes behind the well, etc.).

Where the Keeper Enforcers are involved, first, none of the KEs ever see me. If I had to knock one out, same technique applies, make sure there are no witnesses and the bodies will not be found.

What's seems odd though, after the KE incident, the area of Stonemarket where St. Edgar's is, becomes a war zone. Hammers killing Pagans, killing female pirate Thugs, killing City Watch, killing Bar Maids and Merchants. Just one big melee. Then G gets blamed for the killings and attacked when spotted. Bar Maids and Merchants see a dead body, they automatically think G did it. Same with the Thugs. The Pagans and the Hammers not as much, maybe depending on your alliance with them.

I had something similar to that when the KE's first came into the picture. I was making my way to Ft Ironwood when I was jumped by an enforcer. Of course it allerted a near watch, who moved over to attack me. I tried to get away by running to the fort, (allied with the Hammers) and the bastard Hammerite joins in the mob against me. It's like they completely ignored this freak with a mask and instead joined in for a nice gangbang.

When I want to rob someone, this is how I keep from being discovered when black-jacking, and dumping body. I save right before I go in for the kill (so if I really mess up I can reload real quick). Then I make sure no one is in sight for the entire ordeal!!! To me, it's not worth getting everyone all pissed off and running from me... I'm a thief for Pete's sake.

I'm playing a stealthy game, and am not harming inocents, I'll pick their pocket, hey, if they can't keep it safe then they deserve to loose it. But I want physically attack them. Mind you the ladies of questionable affection around the Hammer Church had lots of sparklies :) and a friend of mine claims to of seen a guy with a loot glint in his eye, I may have to mug him, just to see what he's got in his eye.

Needless to say guards etc are fair game, although I will sneak past em and pick pocket where possible.

Magic users get a little tap from the ol' black-jack, I don't trust em! :D

The "glinty things" you are describing on the eyes, are glasses.

::Edit:: This is going off-topic a bit. But if the KE's can only communicate telepathically, why do they shout "Interference" before lighting up a stupid peasant?

The reason Garrett is blamed all the time is because his POSTER is plastered all over the cotton picking city!! Also, if no people paid any attention to Garrett's comings and goings, that would make for a REALLY boring game!! Just follow the advice about taking your time, picking your moment and being discreet. Its all about doing it "right", not how fast you can get it done. There are a plethora of FPS out there that allow for straight forward hack and slash in record time,,,,Thief is not one of them.

I wonder though, if you ghosted the city, would G's wanted poster still pop-up. If no one has seen him (or his face), will a blank wanted poster pop-up? What about if you didn't whack anyone in the city?

It's time for some experimenting.

The whole premise behind the game is not to get caught at whatever you're doing. If youre just running a hack-n-slash game, you're defeating the purpose of your ability to sneak, and also you aren't getting the most out of the game.

Go back and try to play Thief 2 as a hack-n-slash type on Expert Level - rude awakening, taffer!

YOU'RE A THIEF, NOT A MURDERER!

This isn't Tomb Raider! If you must, blackjack the innocents, steal their stuff, and dump the unconscious forms in the shadows where no-one can find them.

Better yet, there's so much money in this game that you can easily get by without even blackjacking the pedestrians - just pickpocket their purses.
