Just want to do a shout out to the Dev team. Once again, I am beyond amazed with another Thief title.

Just finished the Cradle level, took me three nights to complete. Not because it was overly hard, but because my nerves could only take a few hours a night playing it. I ended up playing with some lights on too. Though I did start out with all the lights off. Think the first time I heard the ghostly children's laughter, I was like, "Ok, some lights are coming on..."

Props again guys. You successfully scared the hell out of a devoted 27-year old Thief fan. And the supernatural is nothing to me either, but that is a different story. I could go on about the number of times I practically jumped out my skin when a puppet attack or charged. Or that nice little egg in the west side of the Outer Cradle..

Don't know if it was something I did to cause it. But on the West side of the outer cradle (oppisite of the treasurer's office), in a room there is an apple on the table. Well I was looking around the room when I heard movement. The bloody apple rolled off the table and onto the floor! If that was scripting on you part, please send me an address where I can send you guys a nice care package.

But overall, a very well done level. My wife thinks I am crazy saying how freaky it is, but she refuses to try it out. :D

:::Edit::: I should have added this, but slipped my mind. I have a small desk fan sitting my desk to keep the area cool. Having it on helped add to the atmosphere of the game, especially when I knew something nasty was lurking about as the air got really cool.

I, and most others, agree that the Cradle was an amazing piece of work. I tried to get my little sister to play it. She's 12. Anyways, she got as far as right in frotn of the attack door before she just freaked out and ran off.

And the apple? Never happened to me. It looked fresh enough until you picked it up, but anyways, no rolling off the table.

For me, more then anything it was the noises that made the difference, as always in a Thief title. In the Cradle, the noise was made the difference. The architexture was creepy sure, and those patients were creepy as well, but the sound is what truely made the level.

As I said before, the apple might've been cause by something I did. I can't remember if I snagged it or what not.

The sounds were very creepy. I spent most of the level constantly looking behind me, even when I knew that all of the puppets were destroyed. The whole atmoshpere of the level made me feel like I was being watched. Of course the doctor's notes lying about the level added to the horror of the place.

I wish game companies would look at what thief has done, and incorporate it into thier games. To many games, IMHO, fail to draw the gamer into the game like the Thief series has done. I am surprised they do not do it. Guess they feel the same, run around-shooting-stuff-while-eating-four-rockets-style-of-play is actually amusing. It's also the reason why I haven't played many new titles for more than two-weeks. Thief3 however, I have played religiously each night and look forward to playing it further.

I read on other threads somewhere about the apple event although it did not happen to me. Maybe you bumped into the table? Early in the first mission, I bumped into several objects causing them barrels to crash down stairs or swords to clatter to the floor alterting every AI nearby. When I replay this game, I'll have to check out this apple.

I could have bumped it. Just odd with this level as I have thrown items that I accidently picked up back onto the table in other maps. None of them ever rolled off and onto the floor though. Whatever the case was, it was pretty cool and freaky to happen in the level.

Can't swear that I didn't touch it but I also had an apple roll off the table and across the floor.

It must be an easter egg. I'll have to start the level again (saved at the begining to coerce the wife into trying it) and taff around up there.

Like I said, that apple never rolled for me. But something else DID happen. Whenever I get to that place where the apple and note are on the table, I hear a cage closing or something. Anyone else get that?

Interesting... will have definitely have to revisit the Cradle to listen for that gate sound.

Apple thing happened for me too. The thing is, I couldn't get it to STOP rolling.
I put it back on the table, tried wedging it in the corner of the room, but nothing could stop it.

On a similar topic: was there a ghost in the basement/ storm cellar or what? When I got down there off the ladder to get Lauryl's blood, right in front of me in the doorway, it looked like there was a very faint green shadow or mist along the ground. And I could have swore it had a face in it...

what i love about that level is that there are no dangers in the outer cradle whatsoever and yet i still find myself hlding my breath and sneaking around. :D
