View Full Version : Garrett isn't running. Why?

I can't figure out why Garrett isn't running correctly. "W" should run forward, but when he does run he starts walking after a few seconds. I'm probably opening myself up here, but am I an idiot? What am I missing here? What am I doing wrong?

Didn't somehow bind the same key to both 'Forward' and 'Walk' did you? Can't see how, but you never know.

You can also tweak the Thief game through its INI files to make him walk instead of run. Maybe that's it.

Or maybe, if your Walk button is Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Caps Lock, or any of those modifier keys, maybe one of them got "stuck down" in software (computer thinks the key is still down, because it didn't see the key-release event, maybe.) Try tapping every Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Caps Lock, Num Lock, all those keys, and see if it changes.

I took a look at this and reset everything to defaults. I tried a different keyboard, thinking it could have something to do with it's wireless nature. There was a readme comment about turning off 2k's sticky key feature, which I did. Still no go.

I put in a support ticket, so hopefully they can help. But in the mean time, if anyone has any ideas... :)

If you have any gamepads or joysticks plugged in, unplug 'em.

Other than that, no idea. That's pretty weird. If the gamepads/joysticks thing doesn't work, you'll have to go back to the universal remedy... Sacrificial offerings of cold coffee in the floppy drive, to appease the demons.
