I was just wondering if anyone could help me with this problem, its not really anything to do with TDS but I thought someone might have the answer.

Most games that I try to play on my pc run jerky and slow like they pause for a plit second and then start again quickly. Its like my CPU is under pressure but I know its not. I tried installing GTA3 and playing it but it just did the same. This happens with lots of games but not Wolfenstien Enemy Territory. Heres my specs.

O/S Windows XP Professional Edition (5.1, Build 2600)

Direct X 9.0b

AMD Athlon 1.4 +1600
Nvidia Geforce 2 Titanium
40Gb 7200rpm Hardrive
512mb Ram
Gigabyte 7VTXH Kia Motherboard

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( PLEASE HELP!

Here are my stats:

P4 2.4
1 GB PC2700 DDR
ATI 9600xt
40 GB ATA 100 WD HDD

Given these, GTA3 still runs choppy at 1024x768 or even 800x600. All other games run smooth as silk. I'm pretty sure it's just that performance issues are exagerated on games optimized for consoles.

Mabey its just because its from a console but other games do this aswell. I have tried other games like Battlefield 1942 and Americas Army: Special forces but they still do this. Actually I think I need a new PC. Better start saving.

GTA3 = Direct3D

Wolfenstein Enemy Territory = OpenGL

You are experiencing superior performance from the superior API. I personally get better performance with GTA3 while playing under Linux (WineX+OpenGL) than under Windows, which surprised the hell out of me. Same goes for Max Payne and the Max Payne 2 demo.

The only suggestion I would offer is to not push your system with the games you are playing. Keep the settings low with newer games until you can upgrade, and remember that the graphics card is more important than the CPU these days.
