This seems worth mentioning.

I saw a report on TV a few minutes ago that Eidos had reported less than expected earnings and that there is speculation the company is about to be sold.

How is this good news? Eidos folding would mean their IP likely gets sold off. And *poof* no more support for existing products.

Maybe their IP would be bought by a company that actually gives a damn about the games and their fans. Eidos is the reason LGS is no more, and as good a game as Thief-DS is, it's nowhere near what it could have been.

Thief-DS and Deus Ex-IW are, first and foremost, console games. Why? Eidos says that PC gaming is dead. The fact is that they are leading the charge to kill it.

I suspect we're living in different realities. Perhaps you ought to read this (http://www.ttlg.com/articles/lgsclosing.asp).

No company is going to support a game released by the previous owner of the IP unless they have a financial death wish.

PC gaming will never die. Its had rough patches before when Nintendo was all the rage, but it came back strong with the advent of 3D engines. And it will again when the next big thing rolls around.

Besides, there's LOADS of things a PC can do that consoles can't, even ones like XBarf that have a hard drive.

Personally though, I'd like to see Eidos sold, and not because I have some sort of axe to grind. I just feel like Eidos has put itself into a rut of publishing the same games over and over again with little real innovation. How many Tomb Raiders do we need?

As it is EA is in the same boat. They pretty much live off what their sports division makes selling 200X versions of every sport under the sun. That and MMORPGs like Ultima Online where they charge a fortune just to play online with a game that you've already paid a fortune for.
