COMPUTER: Compaq
OPERATING SYSTEM: Microsoft™ Windows XP
CPU: AMD Athlon XP ™ 1.7 GHz
RAM: 512 MB DDR
GRAPHICS: ATI Radeon 9600 SE
SOUND: Windows XP compatible Sound card
CD-ROM: Quad-speed
HARD DRIVE: 80 gigs
INPUT DEVICES: Windows XP compatible mouse and keyboard.

I have installed the game with no errors, and I can starts a new game and watch the opening video clip, and then after I select my character portrait and start the game, its doesn't load and goes into "NOT RESPONDING" mode . I just got the new ATI 9600 SE card and have run games like Far Cry and Painkiller with no problems, and if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.

OK its been abot 3 hours and haven't got a single response yet, so I thought I might download the 1.2 patch to see if that might have helped......and its almost worse. Now when I click start game after selecting my character portrait, the screen just stays BLACK and doesn't even do anything (Before I installed the update, it actually went to the first loading screen for the first level, but now its just BLACK). If ANYONE can help me I would greatly appreciate it, I have been waiting to play this for so long. Thanks.

To solve the new problem, uninstall the game, reinstall, and then reapply the patch. I'd also recommend that you defrag your hard drive after you uninstall and after you reinstall.

As for the first: If you haven't done so lately, update your video and sound drivers. You may also want to check to see if there are any driver updates for your CD drive.

You should also run through the readme file that comes with the game to see if they've any suggestions which might apply. Also, check out the support page (http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/CustomerSupport/FaqSearchResults.jsp?problemType=0&searchText=&game=166&platform=3).

If this advice either doesn't apply or doesn't work, you may have a defective disk. You can verify this by trying to install and run the game on a different computer (if you've got one handy). You can request a replacement disk if you determine the disk is faulty.

Actually you may have a pirated game, a friend of mine gets them and he was asking me for help with his and that exact same thing happened, except when he downloaded the patch he couldn't even start the game. But if you did buy it in the store, go with his advice ^.

well all it took was connecting my computer to the internet (my computer is in my room and i took on of the cables and dragged it through the house to my room). for some reason when the ethernet cable is in, the game runs. and when i take it out, black screen nightmares. why is this?

I have this EXACT same problem and I have reinstalled 3 times! Do I have to delete the file in "My Documents" also?

My rig is a AthlonXP 2600+ w/512mb DDR, 9700 Pro, Audigy, and 40 gigs of defragged HD. I'm running WinXP w/ SP1 and DirectX 9.0b.

A response besides "reinstall" would be useful. Thank you.

by black screen, is it like the monitor is no longer responding? cus thats what seems to happen to me. The 1st level loads up then within 10secs it all goes black. This also happens to me when i play far cry.
