Prison - possible spoiler (?)

First of all, thnx Eidos for the best game Ive ever played! Scary, entertaining and even better than T1 & T2. Cant wait for T4 :-).

Ok, so I ended up in prison after I jumped into a sewer in the pagan park and had to break my way out of there. It seemed to me that this mission is optional. (I didnt have to jump into that hole.)

Question have you others done this level in the same way or did you get in prison by another way? Secondly, are there any more "optional" missions that I might have missed? (I do not mean killing rustymites in the city or stealing loot from anyone, but actual tasks/missions where you are entering a new zone.)

As far as I know, any time you die (for whatever reason) in any of the city sections, you will end up in prison.

actually, its any time you are killed by city watch, or if you die whilst being pursued by them (i.e. falling into water)

I have the same question in another thread about this.

The city watch beat me down one night and took me in by surprise. I decided to load a previous save since I wasn't sure if being in Prison at the time I was, was actually the best time for me to be in there. I thought, what if this comes in more handy later in the game? Do I even need to goto prison at all? And after I go to prison, can I come back, or is it a one time thing? Not meaning zoning into the prison, cause I'm sure you can do that as much as you like.. but if I'm caught by the city watch once I goto prison, but after that, if I'm caught again, will I go back?

I have lots of questions about this prison, I'm not sure if anyone really knows the answers or if they have even tried all the differend options. If someone has, please share. :)

ive only been to prison once... but ive heard that everytime you are beaten by the guards they take you there...

altho, in my case, considering I murdered every guard (including the boss) I bet i'd be killed on sight instead :)

Someone aked me how to get out of prison and I was confused since I hadn't been able to get into the prison in the first place and figured it was a mission that would come into play later in the game. So I let myself get caught by the guards and wound up in a cell with all of my tools confiscated (very weird feeling). I broke out and looted the place in the process, and once out, the bars were off the door and I could go back each new night and rob the place all over again. The next time I got killed, the guard just celebrated over my death and I hit reload, so I don't know if I would have wound up back in my cell.

Oooh, that sounds deliciously ominous!

I went back to the prison after Gammal had her statues searching the streets for me, and I noticed there were even statues IN the prison looking for me. Nice touch.
