There are 4 difficulty levels in this game.
1. Extremely Easy
2. Very Easy
3. Easy
4. Normal
And actually, I'm someone who generally plays any game with difficulty levels at Normal, I would never play any game at Hard. And here I was, my first time playing through Thief 3 on "Expert", and already I was doing a bunch of things to make the game more challenging.
I didn't kill anyone. I refused to use the gas bombs or gas mines or explosive mines, as this just would have seemed too easy, it would have felt like cheating. I would typically start a mission with 25 water arrows, and finish it with 21 or so.
What I'd really like to see is someone hacking a custom patch for the game which creates a true Expert mode. Jack the AI numbers way up, end a mission if the player kills someone (if that could be done), edit the game's data files to remove all those free arrows and such lying all over the city and the missions, triple or quadruple the prices in the stores, etc.
I think it would feel like a totally different game if it were truly challenging. Well, I suppose I will end up playing through again and ghosting it, this will create somewhat the same effect, although I still will have no use for money, so no point in doing any of the little side missions in the city.
