Computer lock-up

I have this problem with the Thief : Deadly Shadows Demo

"When I start Thief: Deadly Shadows, my mouse cursor disappears and my computer locks-up.

Chances are your installed audio card drivers are not compatible with DirectX. The only solution is to get a DirectX 9.0b compatible driver from your audio card manufacturer."

I have :
Radeon 8500
Sound Blaster Live! Value

I have tried every catalyst from 4.3 to the latest 4.6 and installed the latest audio drivers available for my sound card (from soundblaster.com website).

So, how do I know my audio drivers are "compatible drivers for Directx 9.0b" and is there a solution to fix this problem ?

Run DXDIAG from the START>RUN menu.

Check the SOUND/MUSIC in the menu. Run the tests. Be sure your card is selected as the "Use this device" in the test/setup part of DXDIAG.

I went into the DirectX Diagnostic and this is what it says :

"Device Name : SB Live! Audio (FFE0)"
"Drivers Name : ctaud2k.sys"

I guess there are no problems over there...

Do you have a gamepad or Joystick hooked up. If so UNPLUG it or them.

I did and didn't solve the problem, I guess that it's just because of the sound card I got that the game doesn't start...
