Games runs now...but it's SUPER fast for some reason. I run like a road runner and the guards walk like they are doing the russian dance... HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT all over the place like skitzos.
o_O
I fixed controls crashing by unplugging my joystick.
Also...is there supposed to be sound when you pick up loot and open doors? I hear nothing...I also hear nothing of Garret when he is supposed to speak about something in-game. Example: Pick up the note on the table next to Julian's bed on the very first level. At my friend's house, Garret said "Well well, looks like Julian went for a little walk." or something along those lines. I heard nothing...

Well...until someone helps me with this, I'm not going to play. It's not fun running 50mph all over the place and the guards acting like the flash.

If you have an audigy soundcard disable CMSS 3D effects you migh have running in the EAX consol. This fixed a problem for a user who didn't hear garrets footsteps when it was enabled.

I wish I could help ya with that... sorry you having such game breaking problems. hopefully a patch will be released soon.
To fix the sounds turn off 'hardware mixing' in the in-game settings. That cured it for me. Don't know about speed though....

Im gonna tell you how you do it on an a Audigy 2 since thats what I have but I think its pretty much the same on a Audigy 1 also.
There should be a littel icon on your taskbar in the right corner (besides the time) named Creative volume control when you move your mouse over it. Double click it to open. Press the first button after the Default button to enter EAX consol. Click ECMSS 3D button and be sure the Enable CMSS 3D option doesnt have a V attached. Also click the Effects button and be sure the Enable Audio and Effects are disabled, like without a V.
Alternative you can also enter the EAX consol by clicking right mouse button over the little icon on your taskbar in the right corner where it shows the time.
Another thing to do is go into Start menu, Control panel and choose the AudioHQ. Enter the EAX Control Panel and then check for any weird audio effects thats enabled.

I fixed the sound by increasing some number in the A/V options.... default of one...maxed it at 8.
The speed still happens. I gotta reload the saved game about 5 times before it goes to normal speed.

No sound problems at all here.
I have the latest EAX 4.0 drivers for my Audigy and I check all EAX settings in the in-game settings section and I get beautiful sound, no problems at all. Just for you to know.
The only thing I would like changed in my sound with Thief 3 is the voices volume. When guards or other people around you speak, they are too loud in volume and I think this volume should be slightly lowered in the next patch.

I have the same problem, starting to see reports of others with the same with the Athlon 64 CPU.

Thank's for this advice, because I was really irritated of these sound problems during gameplay (SB Audigy LS, Creative speakers 6.1), and now it's finally fixed!!

It's the Cool N Quiet feature of the Athlon 64.
What C N Q does is turn the clock speed of the CPU down when it's not needed in an effort to reduce heat. So when you're just reading the forum here you might have a 1.5GHz(or something) instead of a 2.2GHz machine. When you start up the game, C N Q relizes that the CPU is getting hit up with a massive demand, and turns the clock speed back up to full. You basicly end up with the game playing ass slow before it goes crazy trying to play catchup.
Shut off Cool N QUiet in your motherboard's BIOS and see if that doesn't solve it.
Cool'n'quiet has nothing to do with it. I am running an Athlon 64 3200+ with c'n'q turned on and I have not experienced this issue...

I turned off cool n Quiet and this has solved the speed up problem once and for all.

There are diffrent settings for how low Cool N Quiet throttles the CPU. Some are more agresive then others, and will effect game performance diffrently.
