After installing the new drivers for my computer so I could play Thief Deadly Shadows I am no longer able to play the old Thief games. What is weird is that I will go to play a mission, for example a Thief 1 fan mission (or any regular game for that matter) and it will give me the starting menu and the intro but the game loads and I hit continue then it goes to a black screen and nothing, but I can still hear the loading music. I have to hit the space bar and it throws me back out to my Darkloader. The same thing happens in Thief 2 games.

I was able to play fan missions before the new updates. Thief Deadly Shadows plays fine.

Here are my computer specs, let me know if this is all the info needed.

Running Windows XP Professional
AMD Athlon XP 1900 +
512MB RAM
Motherboard: NVIDIA nForce 2 Ultra 400 + MCP (latest unified driver updated)
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 graphics card (lates driver updated)
80 Gig HD

Does anyone know why this is doing this and how it can be corrected? I am thinking it has to do with the updated drivers.

Thanks for your help.

Did you install your Video driver first, and THEN dx9?

Make sure you installed DX9 first, and then put your video driver in after. If you messed up, just install the driver again.

I'm going to go home and check out my t1 and t2 games tonight as well.

No, I did install the new card, then Direct X 9.0b then the latest driver. So I should uninstall the drivers, then install Direct X again, then the driver and then the update?

Go here: http://www.omegacorner.com/

Get the DRIVER CLEANER. Use it to completely remove the old drivers.

1. Uninstall the old drivers completely.
2. Run DCleaner

Install the card. Install the drivers and controls that came with it.

Get the updates and apply those.

Thief 3 has a check file that will test your V card, it also has the updated DX 9.0b to install.

The order in which you install DX does not matter, just have DX 9 as a minimum.

I am running an ATI AIW 8500 with the new OMEGA drivers, and have no problem with any of the OM games or T3. At least not yet.

What about the Omega enhance drivers for Nvidia? Do you think I should use those drivers or the default Nvidia drivers and the updates from Nvidia?

The OMEGA drivers are usually excellent. If the comments about the Nvidia drivers are good, you can check around and see, sure.

Even ATI recognizes that OMEGA drivers are better, and even host some of the updates themselves.

I don't mean to be totally stupid about this but I am not sure what driver I need to download. Is it the Detonator Driver 52.70 located here (http://www.driverheaven.net/downloads/index3.htm)
