The Bow Upgrade

I can see that IOS has a sense of humor. All the talk in the earlier Thief series about the rumored "bow upgrade" has finally come home to roost. TDS has several upgrades, including the bow upgrade.

They're just holding true to the series. The bow upgrade in Thief: The Dark Project was awesome. It simply had to make a comeback.

what? i have played this game for three years, especially T:DP and NEVER heard of, or saw an upgrade. This has to be a joke.

What, the ability to kill Rust Mites? They actually call that a Bow Upgrade in the game. Yeah, that's useful. :|

Other than that, I can't remember any BOW upgrades, and I've finished the game. There are other weapon upgrades, but not anymore bow ones that I can recall.

In Thief: Deadly Shadows the hammers and pagans both upgrade your bow for you at a certain stage in the game. You can't get past this, its essential.

In Thief: The Dark Project...

the bow upgrade is found in the Alarus Extension in the Boneyard mission.

Oh yeah, the Pagan and Builder upgrades are intensely cool. Someone these factions manage to cast a blessing on your bow simply because you read a plain old piece of paper. Wow, thats believable.

Then theres the fact that these upgrades are completely and totally useless for anything other than popping your faction one way or the other. It has absolutely 0 affect on gameplay.

The bow upgrades are an insult, IMHO.

I was gonna say something spoilerish about the Alarus Extension here. But the hell with it...maybe the Bow Upgrade will make people replay Thief 1.

This taffer is a joke. He's probably just trying to get a rise out of people. But, if not, I can't imagine anyone would think the worthless faction "upgrades" would be cool in the slightest way. Big deal, you can shoot moss at cornerstones and kill rustmites. HUZZAH FOR THE HAMMERITES AND WOODSIEFOLK!

That would've been a MUCH better idea. It's repulsive that they even call these Bow Upgrades in the message that pops up.

Holy water arrows would have been damn useful too.

Its the mission where you're going after the Horn of Quintus. Third mission in the game I believe. Should be called "Down in the bonehoarde" or something to that effect.

The bow upgrade can be found in the Alarus Extension (Check your map).

What does this upgrade do? Be sure to put it in the form of a spoiler. Also, as I recall all weapon models were 3d, but I had Thief Gold. Were they also 3d except for the upgrade in The Dark Project?

Well, I'm old and my memory cannot be trusted. But

I think the Alarus Extension in the Down in the Bonehoard level is actually blocked off by a cave-in. So you need the shovel to dig your way through it. Incidentally, shovels are also useful for digging through bull*****. Happy digging.

This is what happens when you ship a game without an editor.

Yes, TDP has a mission where you break into an underground cemetary with all kinds of chambers. Because there was no level editor for TDP for quite a while, we could not be sure what hard to reach areas could be explored and which were just a front.
The alarus extension was one of those places, marked on the map, and looking accessible, but pretty much impossible to get to.
So one day someone claimed they had gotten in and had found a 'bow upgrade'.
When EIDOS finally gave us the editor, it was possible to see that the alarus extension doesn't actually exist, and nor does the bow upgrade.

So perhaps it's not a bad thing that we currently have no editor. Adds to the mystery when you have to explore in-game.

The Bow Upgrade in the original thief...

...added power to your bow increasing range, decreasing the annoying arc making arrows fly straighter, and most importantly, increasing damage.

Anyone who says the bow upgrade isn't in the alarus extension because the alarus extension doesn't exist needs to learn how to use the editor better. All there is to it. We have first hand testimony and screenshots of the upgraded bow.
